GLADYS AYLING ' Gladys is one who sees all, hears all, and keeps her knowl- edge to herself. We think that's the secret to her cheerful dis- position. DOROTHY BECKER ' While a staunch supporter of the Library Club, Dorothy was a cheerful assistant at the desk. She has checked off many a book in her high school career. RUTH ATWOOD 9 Living up to a reputation set by sister Helen is not so easy, but Ruth has done it, mainly through her activity in the Tower Club as the undis- puted queen of the teamakers. MURIIEL BAKER ' Here is a future artist or blues singer. The former is pre- dicted by her fine work in the Annual, the latter by any G. A. A. camper who heard her render I'ze a Mugginf' CHARLES N. BEEIK, jR. ' Charlie divided his time between music and the Annual, favoring the business end of the latter. However, he did a very good job of both. JEANNETTE BERssENisRUOOE ' As a member of most ev- ery activity and the accomplish- ed president of the Spur Club, Jeannette is known for her abil- ities, which account for her membership in N. H. S. as a Junior. LORRAINIZ BLIECH 0 Lorraine has been the big blow of the music department for some time, tooting the original Music Goes Round and Round horn for the band and orchestra. ELIZABETH BOYD ' This charming songstress has quite a record of successes to her Credit in most of the plays which were given. She is also N. H. S. president. 4:2022 VERNA BTEBL ' Verna is Pot afraid of work, but she's not partial to it. With many friends she goes on her happy-go-lucky way. GRACE BOETTCHER ' Many activities claimed Gracie's attention. She was vice president of the German Club and Art Editor of the Tower. May we say Auch du Leiber, Grace, you did a fine job. BARBARA BROWN ' Besides winning the first girls' tennis trophy, Barbie has held offices in many clubs. Need we say more to prove what we all know is true?- Popular, game, and dependable is our youngest girl grad. K CAT ERINE DEDRICK ' One of the peppiest girl grads is she. Vim, vigor, vitaltiy are characteristically hers. Fel- low Dramatic, Tower, French, and Home Economic club mem- bers will testify for Catherine. JEAN ETTENHEIM ' She-'d stop St. Peter's roll call to ask a question. Iean's comic side, however, is balanced by her excellent newspaper work, and her efforts as Tower Club scribe. JEANNE FRITCHLE ' Seldom does one find brains, looks, charm, and per- sonality all incorporated into one human being, but here is a person who has them all-and then some. CHARLES BUCKLEY ' This eminent Hi-Y mem- ber, of three years standing, is claimed by a news route direct- ly after school, but Ned's pub- lic must be well informed. GARY CHAPMAN 9 If red means danger, here's a warning to all records and women. This twice elected red- haired class president and track man is dynamite. JAMES CRYDERMAN ' The early bird gets the worm , but who wants a worm? Jim doesn't favor the idea, be- ing an official haunter of the pink-pads in the office, besides tooting the trumpet. BARBARA DEPEW ' Barbara has clearly proven her ability in the active mem- bership of the Tower, Spur, and French clubs. She has been a very able president of the French Club for the past two years. RENATA FILTER ' She's one of those silent students, who goes pretty much her own way, but who has proven herself to be a good worker. BETTY FRITZ ' Betty is one of the out- standing sopranos who helps to make the chorus what it is. Her friends tell us she has quite a repertory of entertaining jokes and stories. 421, class of 1937 LORETTA BULLOCK ' Promotion from official haunter ffor duesj to noble president of the Tower Club, playing roles in both class plays, and being a member of G. A. A. all help to explain Lo's N. H. S. pin. DoR1s CoULsoN ' Doris has strengthened her lnotej throwing arm, not only by three years in G. A. A., but also this last year by being a cheerful relay man between two Econ tables. BERGA DAvrDs 'Here's to a snappy stenog of tomorrow. Berga has endeared herself to her friends and is a cheerful class- mate. class of 1937 JEAN Fu12RsTisNAu 'jean is always dashing around in one of her super cars, chauffering people to their destination. She returned from a year at Downer, eager to par- ticipate in our activities. MARGUERIT13 Giarz ' Since matriculating from Riverside in her Junior year, Marge has been a conscien- tious Tower Times and Home Ec. Club member. 4 ALLEN GOLDMANN ' As a knock-em deader, Al displayed his talent both on the football field and as a lover in the class play.-Tsk, Tsk-Is that what those Shorewood gals teach you, Al? LYNN GAUSLIN 9 Lynn is one of those peo- ple who, with the best of inten- tions, starts in a hurry, but al- ways manages to be late. But her charm makes one forgive and forget and feel she is priv- ileged to do so. KIZNN ETH GIJIELZIZIK ' We can attribute those direful digs of the Bay Wlindow to Kennie , a tooter in the band and orchestra, twice a football letterman, and the pres- ident of the Hi-Y for the past year. ROBERT Glillil' ' The ability to swing the Club developed the caveman in the main stay of our golf team. As County lunior Champ and the big bad villain of Tiger House he has attained glory. GEIKALD I-IAoLoc:K ' Gerald, one of oui' famous horsemen, has been treasurer of the Spur Club during its exist- ence. Also, he has been respon- sible for the advertising of the Tower Times for the past year. EIJWAIKID HAMIJIE ' Heres the boy who awes us all by his scholastic ability- but a real fellow for all that. Ed has done more than his share on the Tower Times. JANE HIEIJIDING ' Athletics seem to be lanes chief interest. She has been a member of the winning soccer and basketball teams for three years. cc bb LORIN I-IAMEL ' Portraying the Beau Brum- mell of many dramatic club pro- ductions, officiating as circulat- ing manager of the Tower Times, and indulging in intra- mural sports are just some of Lorin's activities. -IIZROM is HAIKIKISON ' Many of us take jerry's grin for granted, but get him started on hunting! He has made his friends through that cheery disposition and willing- ness to help, he's taken school as it comes. STUART HOADLEY ' Still water may run deep but that doesn't mean Stu is all wet. Our twice-elected vice president is very wise and as de- pendable as the revolutions of the earth. DENNIS KENEHAN ' It's the little things in life that count, and Dennis has counted for plenty of points both in intra-mural sports and volley ball while he supported those teams. ELIZABETH KOPMEIEIK 9 By carrying successfully five subjects this year, Liz has proven her claim to the sheep- skin, though fate did her best to prevent it, in the form of scar- let fever-Was her face red! RUTH LAZARUS ' If beauty is onlv skin deep, Ruthie must be very thick skin- ned. Then, the size of her pin collection might lead one to be- lieve she is a pawn-broker. class of 1937 RUTH HoELzEIz v,-'NORMA JANE HOWELL ' She's the rettvt, ittl TIA 9 NoI'ma says Wl1iIt's the blonde you see s ufffrling to , of ihinking, if talkixgedoess from classes4an 'Ifow ig u , V M just as well? She has been e fything from prom queen to n ws reporter and has ably stood all those vice presidencies. KENNETH KANNENBERG 9 Though an end and guard, Kaptin Ken is not the pro- verbial End of the bench and guard of the water bucket but a true football end and basket- ball guard. , In ' Some times he sits and thinksg some times he just sits, but Fred is a regular fellow with a football record to be proud of. JOSEPH KELLEY ' Roses to Campion for send- ing us such a sorely needed center. joe, spelled with an e KellEy Call Irishj has been ac- tive in all dramatic productions, both as director and sound ef- fects man of the class plays. We'I'e fortunate to have Peach for our Annual Chief. 44 .2 9 class of 1937 ELLIOTT LEWITZKE 9 Take it easy has been Elliott's motto during his four years here, but this hasn't stop- ped his wit, for he supplies many a laugh with his subtle humor. JEAN MACDONALD ' Jeanie Mac -the glass of fashion, the model of form, the envy of fellow students, and the ideal of under-classmen has come to the end of her high school career. MARK MCKEE ' Quintus Fabius Marcus Aurelius McKee-us Secundus is the adopted name of this boy wonder. Despite this title, he has managed to become the youngest graduate of the '37 class. KENNETH LINDSAY ' Kenney has lent his sup- port to almost every important feature of our school besides be- ing a member of the Glee club and an accomplished cellist. WILFRED MAECHTLE ' Life has been one grand run-around for Vfilfred, while he has been doing his exercise in Track and Cross Country. MW MARILYN MCKNIGI-IT ' Beautiful but dumb doesn't hold true to Marilyn because she has brains as well. The wonder girl of the Bay always has her home-work, yet never misses a social affair. JEAN MEAD ' Fellow classmates and Dra- matic Club members will agree that Jean has displayed her gift of common sense to the best ad- vantage, HAROLD MOHIK ' lf at first you don't suc- seed, be sure and have a good alibi, is Harold's mottog ser- iously, he is an interesting and loyal friend. JOSEPH MORIENCY ' Has joe ever heard the old saying Silence is Golden? He won't make his million by any get-rich-quick methods, but he has convinced tlIe teachers that he has something besides hair in his head. ax 24 at DOROTHY MINOR ' Having known Torchy for so many years, we cannot believe the old saying about red-headed spitfires. Noted as a sport's girl, she gained admis- sion to G. A. A. as a freshman. ROBERT MooN ' The rootin', tootin', high falutin' clarinet playin', jazz man of the 'iSwingsters, also has to his credit two years of home-room presidency and one year of Glee Club. ELAINE NEUSWIRTI-I ' Knowing that it isn't so much the amount you say, but the amount you do that counts, Elaine has gone through high school lending her support to countless activities. DORIS PELICH ' There is an old saying tht Precious things come in little packages. Doris is truly a life- like example, for her friendship is a fine thing to possess. JANET PIPKORN ' janet is one of those nice to have around folks who would rather watch than partic- ipate, and leave the glory and shouting to those in the lime- light. F. JAMES PRINZ ' His highness jimmy has done royally in everything he entered. He has merited letters in football and volleyball. Much praise to him for fine work on the Annual. ROBERT NIEPOW 9 Cartoons and caricatures are Bob's hobbies, at which he is quite proficient. He portrays us as we hope nobody else sees us. Rosn OPETZ ' Rose is one of the few still believing that school is a place to get an education and has gone about doing so in an un- obtrusive manner. WILLIAM PARSONS ' Bill had the right idea when he bought a motorcycle, for he has little parking trouble. Most any place is big enough, and he can lift it if necessary. class of 1937 ROBERT NIRSCHL 9 Often being the object of Bob Niepow's caricatures doesn't dampen the spirit of Robert. He can take it! SEVERYN PACHOLSKI ' Once he told us one of his relations was a famous general -but remember, Severvn, the pen is mightier than the sword, so don't neglect your readin', 'riting and 'rithmetic. ANN PATRICKI ' It will be with deep regret that we sing Annie doesn't go here any more, for she was al- ways a cheerful and pleasant person to be with. ELIZABETH PENNINGTON ' There's always one bird in the nest that sings more sweet- ly than the rest. Penny's can- did camera consciousness is due to her position as snapshot edi- tor of this publication. GARNER PRAY 9 Oh! He's the drummer man in the band -and does he swing those sticks! The red- headed track star says his future is in teaching school. However -time will tell. ROBERT PRINZ ' Bob was most content when tending lights and props back stage. Call him all the names you like, but never insult his car. 425: class of 1937 ROBERT REMLEY ' Bob has won many friends with his ready smile and per- sonality. Carving skating let- ters at ice meets was only one of the outside activities that claimed Bob. LORRAINE RIEDY 9 Lorraine, known for her attractive smile and good-look- ing clothes, has taken part in many dramatic productions. At present, she is the president of the newly organized Home Ec. Club. WALLACE ROBINSON ' Resuming his studies at W. F. B. after a lapse of a year, Wallace has again taken his place in school life and receives his sheepskin with the rest. LOUIS REUTER ' ' Louie has used his mouth to the best advantageg lending his voice to the Glee Club. But recently he has been heard singing specialty numbers at the piano in Pappy's band. CHARLES RIEMER ' Whether he knew it or not, Charlie was the object Of many sighs and much pointed admiration. If he's too dense, or just too wise, we'll never know-but few got a tumble. LOLITA ROSKA ' As a member Of many ex- tra-curricular activities, Lolita did her share faithfully. There- by she has become an asset to the school. VIRGINIA RUIQMELIN ' A comely little miss is Virgie. While most of us will remember her as a quiet gal, her more intimate friends are thank- ful for her ready appreciation of jokes. BERNICE SCHEIFIE ' Beanie lent her talents to Tower Club and Dramatics, where she assumed the role of Meg in the Senior Class Play. Her dancing and lively conver- sation are outstanding. ROYCIQ SCHUTZ ' Save some breath for the mayor's council. Even in the Annual, Royce follows His Honor. Perhaps he recognizes a good thing when he sees it- what, no civil service? cc xr WILLIAM SCI-IACI-IT JR. ' You can't win! Bill work- ed and slaved four long years to be a mighty senior. What does that make him next year? An insignificant frosh, again. MILTON SCHREIBISR ' This young politician pol- ished his platform speeches and campaign promises so much in his third hour class that even Mr. Brewer conceded the office -Hail to the Mayor of Thiens- ville! MARION SCHULTZ ' Perhaps that pearl studded du-funny whic Marion sports around m y ain why she has not en t in the out- side a i i i She provides her own, i .ee , and is not doing bad! Q-5-MDL FRANCES STRASSIZ R 9 Always willing to help with a friendly smile, Frances brightened the activities of Latin Club and Tower Club. JOHN THOMPSON ' Our school mate from Utah has shown us that he is nobody's dummy and no mean tennis player. RUDITH TREDER 9 Rudith has distinguished herself by lending her support to Library and Latin Clubs, be- sides holding the lead in Tiger House. Good work, Rudy. MARJOIKIE SCHWAB ' Being the Object of much attention of both masculine and feminine groups has not affect- ed Mugs in the least, but has endeared her to us all the more. EILEEN SCHWISTER ' Believing that the only way to have a friend is to be One, Eileen has collected many in her various outside activities. ROSEVEAR STAPLES ' By weaving a cloak of mys- terious silence about herself, Rosevear has kept them all guessing, but her ability as a student is a well-known fact. class of 1937 CLIFFORD SCHWAHN ' Wiffy has endeared him- self to the under-class women with ease-robbing the cradle? No, a politician, but his other habits are good. TOM SIMON ' T, I.'s football and bask- etball playing has in no way hindered his dancing, for he is still tops of them all in most girls' opinions - hops - dip -tango or what have you. MAR JORIE STOCK ' Honor lies in honest toil must be Margie's philosophy of life, for a more diligent worker could not be wished for. Her re- sponsibilities in many organiza- ions tend to prove t is 7.54660 ww- , ww W' fgfww' g,f,l,.g.-if-fx. 94 GEORGE SULLIVA ' Heres the fellow who buries himself under the big Umpa horn. He sure is a glutton for punishment, tooting it in the band for two years, plus action in intra-mural sports. SHIRLIE THOMPSON 9 Those who number Shirlie among their friends are fortu- nate, for one can detect fun and humor lurking in those eyes. CLAIRE TURK 9 Here's W. B. H. S.'s hero -the pocketboolds friend. He's the local soda-jerker who ushers up 15C sundaes for 1Oc and calls it squareg not because of poor algebra, either. K D W V class of 1937 GEORGE UTLEY ' The activity he displays in dramatics and the other clubs is a contradiction to the slow southern spirit, and makes it easy for us to Pardon his southern accent. DoR1s VOLLENDORF ' If she does turn to Holly- wood for a career, Doris will have a head start on publicity agents, for she established her- self as a drawing card long ago. PAUL WERNICH ' Those who speak from ex- perience say he's God's gift to the ladies. This valuable asset will be missed by the underclass women next year. WILLIAM VAN DEVEN O sonality go our sincere con- grads, and we're mighty glad to have him back. One may be proud to call Bill his friend. To accomplish these objec- tives, we have attempted to give every student in the school the opportunity to contribute his bit, and we, the staff, wish to thank you and congratulate you on your fine co-operation. 0 We hope that THE TOWER of 1937 is a pic- ture book of memories rather than a literary master- piece and wish that all its possessors will enjoy read- ing it as much as we have enjoyed making it. 645310 0 quill an scro flllllllil' Pram Queen SHIRLIQY JAMES fllllfffl' Pmw King .,AfV1lfS PRINZ Q prom royality up Row-l.uVuy, Bulik, lhkcr, Xxltntg-111, XV1ldcr. The complete reorganization of the Glee Clubs was started with voice tests for every student in the school, thus discovering many new and prospective singers. After the final selec- tions were made, the Choir consisted of 125 members who have practiced three days a week ever since the beginning of school. 0 Several small singing groups have been formed in- cluding the Madrigal Singers and the Boys' Octet. Besides these, the soloists, Betty Boyd and Betty Smith were given their chances, often singing before assemblies and entering the music contest in the spring. 0 By sponsoring an appearance of the famous Ober- lin Choir, enough money was raised to buy Choir robes for all the members, adding dignity and prestige to our warbling classmates. 4:58a santa swing out C The 451-y Clu'i.ft1mzJ lvolicla-yas' were Il'Ell'0Nl6!l in by the Smzilz Szrizlg Ont, .l'lDOII.f01'6d by tlae Board of Pre.ride12l.r. folk MfCalJill may rangloi mmzmre while lac prozwl be ronlcl UJ'Il'llIg it. flunk out C W'lllJ L'Xd11l.l' over, .n'oH'ozz'.f zrere clrozwzecl al Ike Fllllik-Olll. Al- though the team had some experience, it was light. Out of the season's nine games, four were won, four were lost, and the remaining one, the Homecoming Game, ended in a scoreless tie. The Homecoming Game was one that won't be forgotten. A game had been played on the Shorewood field the afternoon before, a game had been played Friday night, then rain had fallen, and the Homecoming Game, was scheduled the following Saturday afternoon. The result was that South Milwaukee and Whitefish Bay pushed and slipped around the field between the twenty yard lines most of the afternoon, in what seemed to be an endless drizzle. And when the mud bespattered players heard the final gun go off, no score had yet been made. To lead next year's squad, co-captains have been elected for the second consecu- tive season. Last fall it was Fullback Bob McCahill and Guard John Stover who led the Whitefish Bay Squad through its 36-37 season, this coming autumn it will be Half- backs Paul Klein and Russ Wehe. Supporting these two will be ten other lettermen and the whole school. Also, this coming year, Whitefish Bay will have its own fine athletic field. Many Seniors are wishing that they could come back, just to play on that gridiron, while sophomores and juniors are elated at the very thought of being the first ones to use it. 4:7123 R avenscraft, Hoadley. aslaetlmall X ri 5 S , J 1 XY jill' Q 1 'ii A 1 Nl : , - -4 K.. :agp O The Blue and Gray team provided the fans with many thrilling games this season and showed a much improved team over that of last year. After losing their opening game to Racine Horlick, the Boys bounced back and de- feated West Milwaukee in the Suburban Conference opener, 33-29. During the course of the season, two games were won from our neighborly rival, Country Day, and an- other, a thriller, from Cudahy by the score of 28-27. Hard luck seemed to follow the basketball squad this year, and many close games could have been won with a few breaks. The last three games were played without Kenneth Kannenberg, the Captain and guard. Kennethls leadership and defensive abil- ity were sorely missed, and the team lacked its usual speed and fire. Five of the six lettermen will return next year and will be led by Glen Ravenscraft, captain and a clever forward. He should be a factor in getting the championship of the suburban league for Whitefish Bay. a72w Top Row-DeVos, Goelze Webeck But ler, Weber, Zinns, Vogt, Mr K ehl First Row: Simon, Wehe, Klein S gler MLC ahlll Top Row-Gucciardi, Noeske, Harvey, Golanke, Hughes, Van Bramer, Roe, Nigbor, Butler, Morency, Krans stover, Wernich, Martin. Mr. Wangerin has never coached a championship team, but is very enthusiastic over the prospects of the coming season. Being squeezed out of a state championship last year by less than five points, he is more than ever determined to realize a life long desire this year. The squad will be very well balanced with the brunt of the burden falling on the shoulders of five returning lettermen. The rest of the boys will be picking up the other necessary points. The squad is a great improvement over last year's squad both in size and experience which will prove to be a helpful point in a championship team. Our new track will be host to the Little Suburban meet as Well as this year's District Elimination for the state meet. 173: 9 Cunningham Goelzer Goldmann Hornbach johnson Kamp Kannenberg Klein Kelley Matson McCahill Prinz Ravenscraft Sigler Stover Vogt Wehe Wiebeck Perkins Name Service Age Stripes Edward Cunningham 1 19 Kenneth Goelzer 2 17 Allen Goldman 2 18 Fred Hornbach 1 16 Fred johnson 2 16 Walter Kamp 1 15 Kenneth Kannenberg 2 18 Paul Klein 2 16 joseph Kelley 2 16 Vernon Matson 1 16 Robert McCahill 2 16 james Prinz 3 16 Glen Ravenscraft 1 16 William Sigler 2 16 john Stover 2 16 I-lugo Vogt 1 16 Russell We-he 2 17 Herman Wiebeck 3 18 Corles Perkins-Student Manager 4:74a football schedule Sept. 19-Rufus King .. ,..,.. .....,.... The club is open to any girl who earns 500 points by participating in after school activities which include both sports and social events. The required number of points are earned in hockey, soccer, basketball, volley ball, and baseball, which are the major activities, and hiking, bowling, swimming, golfing, and horseback riding which are of lesser importance. After becoming a member a girl is eligible for greater awards according to the num- ber of points she has gained. These awards, pins, minor letters, and bracelets are dis- tributed at camp, at some nearby lake. The money for camping is gathered by paper, candy, and rummage sales. The aims of all G. A. A. girls are to become better athletes, better sportswomen, and to provide wholesome recreation during leisure time. GSO' 5f'f'T f3 ffi5E'i3'9fS?f':- 2l1 T3', g 747 'M ' .ffv-Www . r H. 1.
