Returning to Prep League play after the Christmas break. White Station lost to the Brothers from CBHS but turned in victories over Frayser and South Side. Despite great shooting performances by John Hillman with 29 and Jesse Chapman with 22. the Spartans could not overcome an early East High lead and fell to the Mustangs 62-57. On consecutive nights we faced the Number 3 and Number 1 teams in the Prep League, succumbing to Central on Thursday night by a 62-55 count and bouncing back on Friday night to defeat the Treadwell Eagles 63-47. A great team effort enabled the Spartans to play the season ' s best game. Paving the way were John Hillman with 20 and Jesse Chapman with L5. Dave Tyree gave a big boost to the cause, gathering 12 points and 13 rebounds. Jerry Davis sparked our team playing a brilliant floor game and netting 12 points. Meeting Kingsburv on our home floor on February 6. the Spartans mounted an early lead and were never headed, winning 58-57. Hillman and Chapman led the Spartan scoring with 20 and 19. respectively. Marty Brown chipped in 11. In the last big game of the Prep League season, we played East High in our gym. The Mustangs, who captured the League championship during the previous week, were an inspired team. Gaining a first half lead, East thwarted our every attempt to catch up and won by a score of 71-57. Robert Huff and John Hillman team up to opponent ' s shot. 164 block a CBHS 4«r) B Team Under the able leadership of Coach Maurice Field, the Senior High B Team compiled a credible 15-14 record. Outstanding wins came over Treadwell 41-40, Central 50-48, and East 45-43. Because of the large number of boys on the squad, high scoring honors were divided among several members. Worthy of note was Rob Vanatta, who paced the B Team scoring attack through the first half of the season. However, Vanatta was compelled to sit out the second round of play due to an inflammation of a leg vein. During the course of the season the boys gained needed experience which will prove invaluable for next years Prep League campaign.
