As a high school grows and expands, the governing organization of the students must develop to meet the needs of as many students as possible. This year White Stations Student Council has strived for finer school spirit, increased student participa- tion in school activities, closer cooperation among students and faculty members, and high scholastic standing. Representatives elected from 'each homeroom meet together regularly in order to discuss and seek solutions for school problems which affect the entire student body. During the year the Student Council issued copies of the football schedule and bas- ketball schedule to each member of the student body, secured an American flag for each homeroom, and planned for letters to be placed on the front of the gymnasium for identification, and for a flag to be made to represent White Station High School. The Student Council also handles all money raising drives for the school, such as the Shelby United lfund, and Red Cross, and Christmas fund for the custodial staff. Germantown fell once and Frayser twice in the opening games, before Bolton served up the first loss to Wliite Station. The Spartans played M. U. S. in the next two games and beat them both times to wind up the pre- liminary games before league play began. The 1958 Prep League season got off to a' rousing start at Messick, with the Spartans winding up on the short end of a 50-49 score. This game was one of the most exciting of the season, and stands out as one ol the best played games. ln their first encounter with C. B. C. the Spartans were beaten by ten points, but the second time found the exact opposite, the Spartans winning by ten points. Humes was the first team to fall victim to the Spartans twice, but Tech followed later on. The double wins over both of these clubs gave the Spartans added spirit. Taking on Messick again. the Spartans were forced to bow once more to their strong force. Treadwell also beat the Spartans twice, but they went down fighting hard. In two very close contests East managed to beat Wliite Station. Champion Central had a very tough time with our gallant Spartans before they managed to down them twice. Wfhite Station split with South Side, beating them on our floor, then fighting all the way only to lose a close one on their home court. In the first time out against Catholic, the Spartans came through with a decisive win over the Terriers. Spartan fans should be proud of the job our boys did in their first year. Next year, we think, will bring a higher finish as the team now has that one year of experience. and Bob White' Division. players w JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL 'l'EAM-f-Firxrl row: Tom Winsttin, Bill Newport, jimmy Davis, Donnie Dyer, Arthur Delugach Marty Brown, Tommy May.
