TO TAKE PART ■%. p • Z . - _ Activities-55 Annual “We Do It All For You” Many, many hours went into the pro- duction of the 1984 T'Kopechuck, but for good reason. It was the goal of this year's staff to produce a year- book that would be a little different, with new features. Included in these new ideas for the book are the Head- lines page, the Fads-n-Fashions pages, the song pages which use the words to Time and the 8-page sup- plement which will arrive at the end of the summer. Selling ads, creating attractive lay- outs, writing informative copy and trying to continue the theme Now is the Time throughout the entire book proved to be quite a challenge, but this year's wonderful staff was pleased to put in the effort needed and is proud to present to you the 1984 T'Kopechuck. 56-Annual 1st Row (L to R) Lynn O'Connor-Class Section Editor. FOREIGN EXCHANGE Students Experience A Whole New Life Many different organizations sponsor a Foreign Ex- change Student Program for one common purpose: to improve understanding of different cultures of the world. There is the hope that exchange students will upon their return to their country, show leadership by helping their countrymen's understanding of the country and culture in which they've lived. White River is hosting three ex- change students this year; they are: Tomoko Sawada, from Japan, sponsored by the American Institute for foreign study; Randall Tiongson, from the Phillippines, sponsored by the Enamclaw-Buckley Rotary; and Maria Espinoza from Chile, sponsored by Youth-For-Under- standing. 1. The football players can take real pride in their accomplishments, finishing the season with a 5 4 record. In addition to the inexperi ence facing the team, an unusual amount of injuries seemed to surface. With these factors in mind, ’ comments Coach Doug Funk, “I consider the 1983 season a tremendous success and a real tribute to all the kids on the squad. The games that were lost were certainly not lost from a lack of effort, but rather a lack of depth.” Awards given out this year, as in the past, were voted on by the team. Senior Mike Williams re- ceived the “Team Captain Award” and the “Block ing Award.” Senior Mike Howard earned the Most Inspirational” and the “Tackling Award.” This years coaches award given by Mr. Funk was award ed to Bryan Jeter. It was a rollercoaster season for the Hornet boy s basketball team, with more ups than downs along the way. White River saw its best season since 1976, ending the year with a 13-7 season and 106 league record. Unfortunately, the Hor nets were in the tough half of the Nisqually League and missed the play-offs by half a game. White River used excellent rebounding, an excit- ing fast break and cohesive teamwork built around a solid and talented group of seniors to lead to the unexpected but well-deserved victory over cross-river arch rival Enumclaw and dra matic last-second wins over AA Bainbridge and last year s State Champions. Orting High School. Senior Joe Mills led a balanced scoring attack for the Hornets with a 14 PGA and senior Bryan Jeter was the leading rebounder averaging 12.1 per game. It’s hard to believe our Senior year — the year we have been waiting for for so long — is almost over and it is nearly the time to say good bye to White River and move on. It was truly a year to remember and we, the Annual Staff, hope we have put together a book for you that lets you recall those special moments you lived. We will never forget White River High School or the life we lived here. We will always remember the friendships we built, the fun we had and the lessons we learned — both in and out of class. So, take care Seniors of 1984.
