Scholastically, Dave has maintained a grade point average of 3.6 during his four years at Buckley. With his high scholastic ability and deter- mination. Dick has not only obtained an education but has surpassed the standards of ordinary achievement. In spite of being self-supporting Dick has shared top honors with other class leaders, and has been selected as class salutatorian. which shows that real determination can overcome most obstacles. Now here it is 1951 and we are entering our freshman year at White River. Class officers were: President. John Myers: Vice-President. Joe Dicringcr; Secretary. Joy Bagnall: Representative. Paul Huhtala: and Mr. Litvincko. class advisor. Marilyn Chalberg and Joyce Borter led us in junior high yells. In our second year as sophomores we began to feel more at home at White River, now being members of the senior high. The class was led by President. Dave Jones: Vice-President. Ted Gonzales: Secretary. Joy Bagnall: Representative. Betty Olesrud: aided by Mr. Snell, class advisor. The big event of the year for us was the sophomore dance. With Yvonne Anderson as chairman we chose Hornet Hop as the theme. Kaye Hreha was secretary to the G.A.A.: Bill Gallion and Ted Gonzales were our participants in sports. Our junior year was a big year for us. Officers were: President. Dick Albright: Vice-President. Joe Dieringcr: Secretary. Joy Bagnall: Representative. Paul Huhtala. and Advisor. Mr. Saell. Phyllis Grab was Vice-President of the Girls' Club. Janice Poutt. Representative. Dave Jones was Vice-President of the Student Body. Yvonne Anderson was Secretary. Bill Gallion was Boys' Club Presi- dent. Karen BaiTiton was Vice-President of G.A.A. D. ALBRIGHT and L. BAZZAR President and Vice-President In sports the juniors placed three men on the starting eleven in football with Rich Morgan. Ike Bazzar. and Prank Gonzales on the starting five in basketball. Bill Gallion went to state for track. Marilyn Chalberg and Joyce Borter were senior high yell leaders. Nancy Myers and Phyllis Grab were co-chairmen of the Junior Prom. Gay Paree. which was the highlight of our junior year. Firmly established in White River, we bring to a close our junior year, anxiously anticipating next year. At last wc have reached our destination. Not long ago as freshmen, we looked up at all the seniors, but now. finally on top. they look up to us. Mr. Snell is back as our class advisor. Dick Albright was elected to be our class president again: Ike Bazzar. vice-president, and Joy Bagnall is serving her last year as secretary. Jeanette Trulliager was class representative. Phyllis Grab was elected to the office of Girls' Club President. Betty Olesrud can never be forgotten, as she became the first girl to be elected Student Body President in 22 years at White River. Janice Poutt was elected Secretary of the Student Body: Gail Gentala was elected class representative of the Girls’ Club: Dave Jones held the office of Honor Society President. Homecoming was an important event of the year when the judges crowned Yvonne Anderson as Queen and Dick Albright as King. Joyce Borter was Princess and Frank Gonzales. Prince. Dave Orriss received the Inspirational Award and Block and Tackle Award at the annual football banquet sponsored by the Kiwanis. He also was president of the Lettermen's Club. Joyce Borter and Marilyn Chalberg were elected yell leaders. Sportswise. the seniors placed Bazzar. Morgan. Jones. Orriss. Ted and Frank Gonzales on the first ten in basketball. In football eight seniors made their letter. Baseball and track were also dominated by seniors. The Annual Staff put their trust in Yvonne Anderson when they chose her as editor of the annual. Highlight of the year, besides graduation, was the senior ball, with April Showers as the theme. Committees, under the direction of Co-chairmen Janice Poutt and Ike Bazzar. did an excellent job of making the dance a success. Mr. £ ncll. our advisor, did an excellent job fixing various props to accommodate the theme. Most of us will remember the trip the whole senior class took to Tacoma when our pictures were taken. My gosh! Where did the time go? It seems that we just started and now we are ready to go into the world on our own. but neverthe- less we had a good time all four years. Our senior year is one never to be lorgottcn. Remember the trip to Tacoma for our pictures, order- ing our calling cards, announcements and our robes? School really wasn i so bad was it? We had our ups and downs, and all in all we enjoyed every bit of it. But where did the time all go? Among its many achievements was the revising of the Constitution, a task filled with hard work. Each girl was given a copy of the revised edition. The annual Homecoming affair is sponsored by the members of the Girls’ Club. This year our Homecoming was held October 29. The girls worked hard to put on a program that was different and interesting. One of the main projects of the club is the annual Girls’ Club Tolo. which this year was held on December 11. sporting a Christmas theme of Winter Fantasy.” A new project undertaken by the girls was the spon- soring of a Variety Show which was composed of school and public talent. The concert consisted of many beautiful carols and hymns which received much applause. They were assisted by Miss Agnew’s speech and dramatics class which presented a Christmas pantomime. Soon as the Christmas Concert was over, the choral department started preparing for the Winter Concert.. This concert, too, was a big success and showed many hours of hard work. An added feature of the programs was the singing of the Senior Girls’ Quintet, which contributed much entertainment. For an outside activity and money-raising project, the choir sold Christmas trees in downtown Buckley. Most of this success was due to the fine spirit shown bv the players throughout the year. Another major factor in the Hornets' success was the fine job of coaching bv Mr. Ross and Mr. Snell. The Hornets' Homecoming game did not turn out as expected with the Yclm Tornadoes upsetting the Hornets by a score of 1 2-0. The Bethel Braves were the only other team which beat White River’s Hornets, and it was just bv an eyelash. The final score was 14-1 . The outlook for next year's team is very promising with several returning lcttermen and a group of good ball- players coming up from the ranks of the junior high team. The Hornets were at one time during the season rated as the third best B school in the state, but they were dropped to ninth in the final poll because of two losses in a row. The Hornets won their berth in the West Central District State play-offs, but un- fortunately were defeated two out of four games to be dropped from the play-offs. Much of the Hornets’ success was due to the 6 foot 2 inch captain. Lowell (Ike) Bazzar. Ike held the honor of ending the season with 336 points, which was top scoring for the league. The Hornets first five consisted of four seniors and one junior, and was also considered a short team in com- parison with many of the schools. However, the team as a whole was experienced, for it was composed of four returning lettermen, which turned out to be a big asset. They were Lowell Bazzar. Dave Elison, Rich Morgan and Trank Gonzales. Others on the first ten squad were Joe Dieringer. Ted Gonzales. Dave Orriss. Dave Jones. Joe Caviezel and Vern Estabrook.
