The last time being in 1936. Coaches Ed Stricherz and Bob Campbell carefully laid plans in attacking their opponents, along with conditioning spirit, morale, training and the old desire to play football were big factors in going for the league title. The teams average weight was 167 lbs. but they supplemented this with speed, spirit, fight and good blocking and tackling. Four of the first eleven were picked on the First All Conference Team, Fred West, Gary Sambila, Richard York and jack Henry. Dick McGee made the Second All Con- RICH YQRK ference Team. Page 83 emuiors adle 951 Most Eve 1 mutifiuill of High Sclhooll Years The Senior Class Officers from Enumclaw, Gary Sambila, Vice-Pres., Phyllis Parsons, Sec., Gene Baline, Pres., were discussing the ordering of caps and gowns for the seniors. Looking back on years gone by, the Class of 5l', has had three successful years in high school. Jack Boere, class president led their eventful Soph- omore year, assisted by Jack Henry, vice president, Fred 'Nest, secretary and Val Krainick, treasurer. The Little Red School House , sophomore class assembly, portray- ing VVhite River teachers in their school days, made a big hit with the judges and won the cup as the best class assembly in 4-9 . Another outstanding production for the Class of 51 was the annual sophomore dance, Hades Hop . Leading the Class of '5l', through their Junior year as class officers were: Gary Sambila, president, Jack Henry, vice president, Connie Colvin, secretary and Jerry Geertsen, treasurer. Up In Central Park , the Junior Prom in 50 showed the class' ability to put on an inexpensive, but outstanding dance. For the class assembly, the Juniors took A Walk Down Old Broad- way- , looking into yarious New York shows. In their last year at VVh1te River High School, the Seniors made it an eventful one. The highlight of the senior social season was the annual Senior Ball which was, Silver Dreamland . A shimmering fountain of silver provided the centerpiece for the room decorated in pale blue and white. Co-chairmen of the dance were Alice Ghiglione and Marilyn Holmes. An unusually large amount of Senior thespians turned out for the Senior Play, among these a select few were chosen to take part in the senior production, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay . Family Album , the senior assembly, brought forth many laughs and much applause by an appreciative audience. The Class of 5l supplied a large amount of the brawn and brains for the football team which took the Puget Sound League Championship in 1951. Out- standing players were: Fred West, Gary Sambila, Dick hIeGee, Gene Balint, Jack Henry, Richard York, Bill Mueller, and Jim Symonds. Of these Hornet gridders, Fred West and Gary Sambila were named on the All- State team and also the All-Conference team. Jack Henry, and Richard York were alslo named on the All- Conference team. Dick McGee was placed onthe sec- ond team of the All-Conference, while still others receiv- ed honorable mention. As the classroom doors close on the Class of 51 , the seniors bid farewell to friends and faculty. They will cherish the memories they have of their high school days at Enumclaw. Underclassmen, faculty and admin- istration will long remember them for the spirit con- tributed by their class and the high standards., which they have set for future students of White River High. Enjoying the sun were Buckley's Senior Class Officers, Mike Hander, Darlene Shane. Coleen McCracken, and Don Romberg. The end of another school year and another class leaves the happy hallways of Buckley High School. Looking back through the years, the class of '51 has been active in many fields throughout school life. The first big undertaking as a class was the Soph- omore Hop, Winter Wonderland , which surprised everyone by having real snow. At football games people began to take notice of our future stars Bob Cummings, Don Romberg and Arnie Olsso-n. Arnie also represented our class in basketball, as did Allan Madden, Don and Jim French, and Chuck Koch in baseball. The Sophs began high school with 18 members in Honor Society. Before becoming full-fledged members, this group went through a stiff initiation. As Juniors, with Inez Thieman as president, our interests widened into more varied fields. Many girls turned out for G. A. A. and won. their second letter in girl's athletics. The boys, too, kept up the pace with Arnie Olsson placing first team positions in football and basketball. Don Romberg continued to show great promise in football, too. For the Junior Prom a unique theme, The Storybook Ball , was chosen. As a Junior, Richard Ranch was president of F. F. A. Joyce Hamilton was chairman of the Junior St. Patrick's Day Assembly. Connie Stanton, was elected yell leader again, this time for White River High. A Junior trio composed of Pat lNIcCasland, Colleen McCracken, and Doreen Tembey became known around Buckley for their singing talent. Senior president, Mike Hander, led the class through the most active year of all. In October the Seniors gave a talent show with Bill Secor playing Arthur Godfrey. In sports the Seniors did especially well. Don Rom- berg and Arnie Olsson represented Buckley on the championship White River Football Team. In intra- mural basketball the Seniors were school champions. Not to be outdone by the boys, the Senior Girl's G. A. A. team, the Amazons, were champions in both the volley- ball and the basketball tournaments. Miss Alford, the class advisor, assisted with many helpful ideas for the Senior Ball, Paris In Spring . The gym was decorated with fresh blossoms. One side of the dance floor was like a Parisian Street, showing all the shop windows. The refreshment stand resembled a side- walk cafe and at the end of a bridle path was the guest book. The last months of school seemed to fly by-filled with the Mother-Daughter Banquet, Commencement Speakers, Senior Picnic-and breakfast.
