CLASS HISTORY This document, fished up yesterday, is the record of a band of young people whose achievements are greater than all others known at White Plains High. We stand at the threshold of life. Various doors are opening for us, but as we, the class of 53, go for- ward with the anticipation of work in a new field of life, our hearts are sad as we close the door of our— life and work at dear old hite Plains High. Memory will carry us back to these happy days, then we will be interested in our record. Our six years of high school life have been happy years of work together. Although we have faced some difficulties, we were always able to overcome them. In August, 1947, we entered the seventh grade. Mr. C.R. Allen was at that time principal. There were 55 students in our class. Mrs. Hollingsworth was our home- room teacher. In August,194S, when we again entered school our new homeroom teacher was Mr. S.T. Gardner. We were thrilled over our new teacher. Mr. Gardner is still one of our most loved teachers. All of our class must remember the school year of 49-50. We were now in the ninth grade with. Mrs. McClinton as our homeroom teacher. On March IS, 1950, our school burned to the ground. The Home Economics and Agricult- ure Building were all that was left standing. We fin- ished the rest of the school term by using the Agricul- ture building , canning plant, and the churches. We entered school in August, 1950, with Mr. Fried- man as our new principal. Work had begun on the new building but it was not nearly finished. This year we had Coach Williamon as our guiding hand. By now we had lost several members of our class. In August, 1951, we were a happy group of students when we entered our new building. It was the first time since the school burned that we could have a room called our own. Miss Helen Holmes was our homeroom teacher. We will always remember our Junior Play, Thats My Boy . It was certainly a great success. This year we lost only one member of our class, Billy Joe Murray. He was trans- ferred to Ranburn.
