Class History As we, the Seniors of 1956, complete our scholastic voyage and face the future, we would like to recall the eventful days of yester years. In the year of 1944, we. set sail, starting on the long voyage of education. Some were scared and wanted to turn back, but with Mrs. Childress as our Captain, we set sail again. We traveled to the ports of Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Badgett, Miss Nichols, Mrs. Siske, Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Simpson, and Mr. Boyles. Finally in 1952, thirty-five of us docked in High School. We were at last Freshmen. With Mrs. Patterson as our Captain, we soon got adjusted to the High School life. The Freshman yearwas an eventful one and soon it had slip¬ ped by and we were on our way to the Sophomore Class, with Mr. Comer as our teacher. In the tenth grade, all our time was spent studying biology. The girls even had to catch polywogs out of Meadow Creek. In the Junior Class, we were busy from the start, electing officers, order¬ ing class rings, selling cards and stationary, selling refreshments at ballgames, and other things to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, which was held May 6, 1955 at the Mount Airy Y.M.C.A. The theme The Four Winds was carried out and entertainment was from the four corners of the world. An¬ other highlight was our Junior Play, Accidental Hero which was given on April 1. We really worked hard and it was declared a great success. This year Miss Badgett was our sponsor. At last we were dignified seniors. Under the leadership of our newly elect¬ ed class officers: President, Sybil S. Inman; Vice-President, P. C. Smith; Secretary, Jesquer Atkins; T re asurer, Gilbert Huffman; and Sponsor, Miss Simpson, we elected the annual staff, selected class colors, flower, motto, mascots, and superlatives. The highlight of this eventful year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. Again this year, it proved to be a great success and we shall always remember this grand occassion. Finally we, twenty-four in number, marched slowly up the aisle to receive our long awaited diplomas and to dock on the other side. GILBERT HUFFMAN Class Historian

Class Poem Class Song To the tune of — Don't Stay Away Too Long The years have passed and gone But memories linger on The friends of old, we'll neer forget Our toil we'll neer regret. Through the years we've had such a gay time Trying to broaden our minds. There have been good days and bad days. Oh yes, the memory with us stays No matter where we roam No matter what we do, our home wi II be dear White Plains Hi I Graduation day is here And parting now is near We say goodbye to you, our friends We'll ere to you be true I Now we're leaving White Plains High The time has come to say good-bye But the memories linger on Though our high school days are gone. If our hearts are filled with woe As from White Plains High we go With this thought we are consoled We have our education, worth more to us than gold. For us the days of learning Aren't ended, not at all For if we think we've learned it all Our time has come to fall Though years from now, we all will be Scattered far and wide As we look back toward White Plains High Our hearts will fill with pride. With tearful eye and saddened heart With old friends and teachers we now must part This doen't mean we part forever In our thoughts we'll be together. Through happiness, sorrow, and strife Not merely to exist, but to amount to something in life. SYBIL S. INMAN Class Poet Graduation Exercises The Senior Class of WHITE PLAINS HIGH SCHOOL announces Commencement Exercises Tuesday evening. May twenty-ninth Nineteen hundred and fifty-six at eight o'clock White Plains High School Auditorium

Class Prophecy It is customary for the class prophet to consult someone who can unveil the future and foretel I the destiny of each member of the Senior Class . Being duly elected to the signal honor of prophet of the Class of 1956, I shall not deviate from the old custom. Dropping unexpectedly into the establishment of the Great Swami Whodunit, I asked him to help me. He agreed to do his best and vye were off. First to appear in the crystal ball was the name of the territory; Mount Airy! A sign, Brintle, Attorney-at-Law caught my eye as it swung from a building. On entering, I found Thomas Brintle, as a pompous and dignified lawyer with none other than our classmate, Gladys Hicks as his efficient secretary. Then came Rodney Woodring, who is pursuing women, no less! Rodney has a job as life guard at Myrtle Beach, and spends the time rescuing helpless females. Wonder if Rodney can swim? It looks as if there is a woman in distress now I Who is that chasing that Powers Model, Sybil S. Inman? Why, its the woman lover, J. Glen Nichols. Oh, J. Glen tripped over a rock! I suppose its well that he did, for Taylor is close behind! J. Glen is going to the first-aid station. There's the head nurse of the clinic, Faye Brintle. Man, she can really bandage those cut and bruises! The scene now changes to a fine night club in New York. Just look who manages this joint. . .Lonnie Draughn and Grady Coe; co-owners of Hernandoes Hideaway. The feature attraction is that Italian song-bird, Diasy Peele. Dixie Schmidt is also employed there, but this is her night off! Looking over the table down front, I noticed Rex Atkins. Rex is now manager of State's basketball team, and he boasts Bevo Francis as his star player. The crystal ball now takes us to Detroit, where David Cassell and Donald Marshall are employed by General Motors. David is a test driver . He should tear them up if anybody can I Bill Stewart has just found his new job! This is the fifth one since graduation. Oh well, Bill never seemed to make up hismind about a lot of things. He's now the foreman at Hanes Hosiery Mill. Surely everybody didn't leave home I No, the scene now changes to dear ole' White Plains. What’s this new buildingon the square? Why, it's a restaurant, and Eugene Simmons is owner. Of course, he can't operate such a large place of business by himself. He has employed Erline King as head waitress. Here are some of Eugene's best customers: Wade Venable and Herbert Badgett. Some day they hope to find a single woman around here! Santa has left their stockings empty for ten years straight. It doesn't seem fair. P. C. Smith and June Badgett have been married so long they've forgotten what its like to be single. That only leaves two on the list; Jesquer Atkins and Gilbert Huffman. Jesquer is enjoy¬ ing her role in life as a h o u s e w i f e and mother, while Gilbert is studying under Frankie Dolittle, who hopes someday to show him the formulas for making triangles congruent. But then, thinking that was all, I saw a girl... Why, it was me! I'm now Society Editor of the White Plains Gazette. Thanking the Swami, who was beginning to have a headache from overwork, I left to do my work of writing this magnificient piece of journalism. Who would have ever thought things would turn out like this??? SARA JANE ROBERTSON Class Prophet
