Class Poem Class Song To the tune of — Don't Stay Away Too Long The years have passed and gone But memories linger on The friends of old, we'll neer forget Our toil we'll neer regret. Through the years we've had such a gay time Trying to broaden our minds. There have been good days and bad days. Oh yes, the memory with us stays No matter where we roam No matter what we do, our home wi II be dear White Plains Hi I Graduation day is here And parting now is near We say goodbye to you, our friends We'll ere to you be true I Now we're leaving White Plains High The time has come to say good-bye But the memories linger on Though our high school days are gone. If our hearts are filled with woe As from White Plains High we go With this thought we are consoled We have our education, worth more to us than gold. For us the days of learning Aren't ended, not at all For if we think we've learned it all Our time has come to fall Though years from now, we all will be Scattered far and wide As we look back toward White Plains High Our hearts will fill with pride. Class History As we, the Seniors of 1956, complete our scholastic voyage and face the future, we would like to recall the eventful days of yester years. In the year of 1944, we. set sail, starting on the long voyage of education. Some were scared and wanted to turn back, but with Mrs. Childress as our Captain, we set sail again. We traveled to the ports of Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Badgett, Miss Nichols, Mrs. Siske, Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Simpson, and Mr. Boyles. Finally in 1952, thirty-five of us docked in High School. We were at last Freshmen. With Mrs. Patterson as our Captain, we soon got adjusted to the High School life. The Freshman yearwas an eventful one and soon it had slip¬ ped by and we were on our way to the Sophomore Class, with Mr. Comer as our teacher. In the tenth grade, all our time was spent studying biology. The girls even had to catch polywogs out of Meadow Creek. In the Junior Class, we were busy from the start, electing officers, order¬ ing class rings, selling cards and stationary, selling refreshments at ballgames, and other things to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, which was held May 6, 1955 at the Mount Airy Y.M.C.A. The theme The Four Winds was carried out and entertainment was from the four corners of the world. An¬ other highlight was our Junior Play, Accidental Hero which was given on April 1. We really worked hard and it was declared a great success. This year Miss Badgett was our sponsor. At last we were dignified seniors. Under the leadership of our newly elect¬ ed class officers: President, Sybil S. Inman; Vice-President, P. C. Smith; Secretary, Jesquer Atkins; T re asurer, Gilbert Huffman; and Sponsor, Miss Simpson, we elected the annual staff, selected class colors, flower, motto, mascots, and superlatives. The highlight of this eventful year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. Again this year, it proved to be a great success and we shall always remember this grand occassion. Finally we, twenty-four in number, marched slowly up the aisle to receive our long awaited diplomas and to dock on the other side. GILBERT HUFFMAN Class Historian
