The Oracle — Nineteen Hundred and Twenty-Three CHE Oracle Board of the Class of '23 has dedicated its supreme efforts to producing a better Oracle than ever before. You, the readers of this book, are the judges. It is yours to judge in what measure we have failed or succeeded. If success is ours, what has been a happy anticipation will become a joyful reality. But whether we have failed or succeeded in our efforts, we have that great satisfaction which comes to all who have done their best to be of a real service to their school. THE GENERAL ORGANIZATION CHE year 1922-23 marks the fourth in the existence of the General Organization in White Plains High School. Every project sup- ported by the G. O. during this year has thrived and grown. In the fall of the year, the G. O. engaged the Colgate Musical Clubs for a most delightful and successful concert. The next achievement was something heretofore unheard of in the annals of the school. T his was the operetta, “The Bells of Beaujolais,” which, staged under the auspices of the G. O., played to enthusiastic and record-breaking audiences. Another thing worthy of note is the institution of the Service League which has proved very successful. This plan is something new and is doing much to solve the many difficult problems in regard to the halls. The Point System has also been greatly improved. One of the greatest services which the G. O. has rendered to the school is the publication and distribution of the handbook, that veritable treasure house of valuable information. While the General Organization is still in its infancy, it has grown and continues to grow so rapidly that we, its members, may well point to it with pride and predict for it a bright future. THE SERVICE LEAGUE IT has always been the supreme effort of each Senior Class to leave behind some worthy achievement, which in years to come, will, by its effect on the school, prove a permanent monument to that class. The class of ’23 can be found lacking in no respects,—no, not even in this, for it has been largely due to their leadership and conscientious support that a Service League has come into existence in White Plains High School. The Service League is one of the oldest and most successful attempts at student self-government. This League has been in our school only twelve w’eeks, and in this short time it has exceeded the highest expecta- tions of any. For those who are not acquainted with the principle and w'ork of the Service League, this attempt at a definition has been submitted. The Service League is a group of volunteer students w'ith several faculty ad- visors, who with the push, vigor and original viewpoint of youth, coupled with the experience and straight thinking ability of the faculty, are striving to solve for both, the problems of both. 8
