Although our defense was rather loose at times, a sparkling offense led by Mangum's fast footwork and Sankovich's accurate passing pulled us through the first two games with two touchdown margins. When the scheduled season ended we found ourselves the team to represent the southern zone at the state championship game. This honor we earned by beating Basic, Lincoln and Boulder City. Going into the big game on Thanksgiving Day we were rated as underdogs because of a 47-19 defeat handed us by the Indians earlier in the season. Weak- ened by the loss of six men by injuries, we went determined to show Elko some good competition. Both teams scored early in the first quarter and it looked like it was going to be a wide-open game. At the end of the half we held a 14-7 lead. Elko scored another quick TD in the opening of the third quarter and tied the score. When the dust finally cleared at the end of the game we found ourselves on the short end, 28-27. A great deal of credit for a good showing is due to our coaches Joe Bronson and Nephi Schwab who spent long hours working with our Bobcats. The Bobcats got off to a slow start due to the prolonged football season. The first basketball games were only two weeks after the first practice. Lack of exper- ience and height hurt during the early part of the season. VVith only two re- turning regulars, Coach Loveless substituted freely with his green men and they came through with outstanding play toward the end. 77 - N Y if ef- if W , J,1 if as :W 5 Mb Y . wg J, 4 E.
