A K 'x ix 1 ki 1 , Q ,Mi ,S -P an 1 TCT!-IEQENO We have enjoyed being your advisors the last two years, and we will miss your presence next year. We want to leave you with the following thoughts as you begin your journey from W. P. H . S .: Travel lightly - you are not traveling for people to see you. Travel expectantly - untie the strings with an expectation of high adventure . Travel slowly - take time to absorb the beauty and inspiration of every blade of grass, every mountain. Travel hopefully - to travel hopefully is better than to arrive. Travel humble - visit people and places with reverance and respect for their traditions and ways of life. Travel courteously - consideration for your fellow traveller and your hosts will smooth the way through the most difficult days. Travel gratefully - show appreciation for the many things that are done for you. Travel with an open mind - leave your prejudices at home. Travel with curiosity - it is not how far you go but how deeply you go that mines the gold of experience. Travel with imagination - He who would bring home the wealth of the Indies must carry the wealth of the Indies in him. Travel fearlessly - ban worry and timidity: the world and its people belong to you just as you belong to the world . Travel relaxed - make up your mind to have a good time . Let go and let God. Travel patiently - it takes time to understand others especially when there are barriers of language and custom: keep flexible and adaptable in all situations. Travel with the spirit of a world citizen - you'll determine that people are basically the same the world around. Be an ambassador of good will to the people: treat others as you would have them treat you. We wish you all success, happiness and a good life. And remember: By the grace of God you are what you are: glory in your selfhood , accept yourself, change what you wish, and go on from there . we M? . 1 fr f. 1 1 ,, .1 7, 4 ,Vw 151 H a 'GJ' N Y 2- Y I! Mrs. Gordon . . . To each student, l would give the inlight he will have gained as hindsight in the October following graduation. Mrs. Benne . . . Tremendous growth in all aspects of girls sports. I Mr. Ward . . . Have a separation of the junior high school from the high school regarding pro- gram and faculty. Teachers would be assigned as full time junior high or senior high teachers. Included would be a person assigned Cat least half timeb as principal of the school. 1. My feeling is that White Pigeon could well offer a 6-7-8 grade middle school of 350 to 375 students with a full time administrator. Location should be at a site away from the elementary or senior high school fMottvilleJ with facilities for home ec. , shop, music, and phys. educ. 2. The present elementary schools would become K-5 grade schools and the senior high would be a 9-12 grade facility. Both schools are presently overcrowded: this change would put each of them at about rated capacity. We need to concentrate more on curriculum and teaching and less on discipline , classroom control, and housekeeping items as a school. The problem is that the first category of responsibility can be put off and delayed, while the second cannot be . Before you can get to the theoretical you must take care of the basics. Mrs. Melchi . . . A Marketable skill . . . Because a person goes to college, there is no guarantee: that the person will graduate with a college degree. In fact, figures from the State of Michigan show only 18 of every 100 college , students who begin college actually obtain a degree. Therefore, 82 of every 100 high I school graduates Call who do not finish col- . legel will need to have a skill UPON GRADUl ATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL. Even those whl plan to graduate from college should have a l marketable skill when they leave school, forl as the figures show only 18 of 100 will com- plete college. This year approximately 15 3 students are enrolled in vocational occupa- tional classes at White Pigeon - what are the other eighty-three 1976 graduates going to dq for jobs? By giving each graduating senior a 5 marketable skill, obtained through his or herl high school study, not only would they be able to immediately enter the job market, but also they would enter at a higher level than the unskilled, unknowledgeable person and they would attain promotions at a much faster rate than those unskilled . The graduat- ing seniors would also have obtained self- confidence in knowing that they have a skill they can always fall back on for employ- ment. rigs M am Mr. Morris One Major change, above all, would be a complete curriculum revision to imple- ment a comprehensive CAREER EDUCA- TION PROGRAM K-12. Too many of our our students are choosing the open door to the streets: even after graduation many are totally unprepared and unskilled. A Comprehensive Career Education Program would provide the necessary skills and individual self-awareness for the world of work. If it's possible to sum this up into one goal it would be: TO EDUCATE EVERY WHITE PIGEON HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE TO THE EXTENT THAT HE OR SHE CAN PROVIDE: 1. food for their mouths 2. clothing for their backs 3. shelter Mrs. Andersohn . . . Students who would use the library as a studying place during noon hours. gr . V . Y . . . Economic provisions to facilitate spontaneous programs for special students. Mrs . Leister Mr. Iarrad . . . An increased feeling toward aca- demic, or job related areas, by the stu- dent community. Mr . Evilsizor fWho spends his every spare moment eras- ing the grafitti from school wallsj - We imagine he would appreciate a student body with respect for public property. ffm 51 .N-Ns Mary Jo Steiglitz . . . MAGILL, Pfimiipal High School 483-7676 Central Elementary School 483-7676 Baldwin Prairie Elementary School 641-5544 TO THE CLASS OF 1976 In this world life can often be compared to a ticket for an airplane or a railroad trip. To be successfu there must be a DESTINATION so that we do not become lost in this life. It is also necessary to have 2 TIME SCHEDULE which gives us the ability to become aware of the needs of this day, and of a tomorrov which is already ahead of schedule. Thirdly, we must face up to the ROUTE that we intend to takeg we are free to choose one that is pleasant and provides joy and service to others, or we can go a bitter, rocky, and unpleasant road in this life. Down at the bottom of every ticket is the PRICE that must be paid. Goof intentions will not sufficeg in this life we must be willing to pay the price. It is necessary to transforn information into understanding and be willing to carry out a good intention long after the mood in which i' was made has left. Best wishes to each of you as you complete your own ticket in lifeg with its destination, its time sched- ule, its route, and its price. In this year of the bicentennial, may you be motivated in a very special Iway. Remember, the hand of God is on the shoulder of this troubled world. Believe in yourself. Have aith. But it's great to know that you are in the middle, and being in the middle makes you the main and best part. 2. Being a Junior is being able to ask a Cop for a donation. 3. A Junior is a student who keeps the school together in athletics, student government, and does the work the seniors leave behind . 4. The fact that I'm a junior means I'm right in the middle of things - not entirely inexperienced: but not quite ready to face the world. 5. In the fall we earned over 25100 raking leaves in the community. We also had a record hop after the Colon game. The most important event to most of us was ordering our class rings in November. To keep things moving during the winter we had our first large money raising project, Little Dar- lings. We also continued our tradition of snack sales that we started as Freshmen. In February we sponsored a dance featuring WSTR Disc Jockey Wayne Roberts. We will also have a car wash and continue our snack sales in the Spring.
