This pa ge sponsored by MORTON JOURNAL Archie Watts Morton, Washington Cfarfff MOP QC? Ten years ago today, we tumed in our books, received our report slips, and said good-bye to dear old Randle High forever. During these years our classmates have gone into the world to seek their fortunes. We, BEULAH IUSTICE and RUBY SCOTT, have traveled many miles to renew old acquaintances. We made an ovemight stop at the home of our old friend, LORRAINE SCOTT, in Beverly Hills, Califomia. As we arrived at Lorraine's doorstep, what did we see at the windows but fifteen pairs of eyes. Lorraine has been married eleven years on August 25, 1961 . There are two sets of quintuplets, which gives her the world's record. We were very busy exchanging gossip, as she was wondering which of the old class were still living in the vicinity of Randle, which by the way has really grown in the past ten years. In fact, Morton is now a suburb of Randle. I DON STRAHAN is owner of the Large Termite Lumber Companyl at Morton: his motto is, At least two dozen termites to a board. ELLEN RAY is Don's wife and secretary at the Termite, where she sits on his knee while he dictates his letters. In her spare time, she cares for their own two little termites, WAYNE RIDLON is a professor of the library at the old school house in Randle. He is still trying to read Little Henry in the funny paper fthat is, what time he isn't s1eeping.y From Lorraine we learned that HOWARD MUSIC, better known as Ham, is just thatl He is still playing the role of Hambone, the great bank robber, in Hollywood. LAUREL PANCO is an opera singer known as Madame Laurelia. She can be heard singing with Margaret Truman on the program The Whistler on Station W R E N. CLIFFORD HUNTER is a butler for the one and only Nora and Zeke Van KaRoot. We three took a walk in the vicinity of Lorraine's house andywhom should we see but GORDON BEEKS looking through the junk yard. He told us he had looked in every junk yard from Randle to Beverly Hills for a seat cushion for the back seat of his Model A . We advised him to jack up the radiator cap and run a new car under it. Back at Lorraine's house, there was MARION MUSIC, now a salesman for Gooey Gluey Hair Tonic. He said it is guaranteed to make the hair wave fone hair stand up and wave at the other.j Marion told us WARREN WERNETT fbetter known as Podgey brews his own moonshine at night, while teaching young kids how to play Penny Ante and to Roll dem bones in the day time. KATHLEEN CALLAHAN, we hear, is working in the large New York office of lgnot Whazzlebob where they manufacture igloos. Our time with Lorraine was ended. We sped forth on our joumey, and as we approached Cactus Jack, Utah, we passed Iacko's Chicken Ranch. Thinking the name sounded familiar, we stopped. JACK MORRIS was wildly chasing a big red rooster for was the rooster chasing Jack.y Jack owns a chicken ranch while his wife works at the Red and White Store trying to eam enough money for chicken feed. lt seems Jack has lost quite a lot of weight from worry, This page sponsored by BOB BA KER'S PACKWOOD MERCANTILE 13 Pac kwood, Washington From Jack we learned BUD KELLY lives on a ranch a few miles away, Bud still has no use for the women and is living the life of a hermit while herding his goats on top of Big Rock Candy Mountain. He said one day he was walking along a motmtain road when he heard a hom honking, He headed for the ditch, for who should be driving along but JOYCE SHIPLEY, who at last has a driver's license, She can be seen any time traveling 'the road between Com Cob Comets and Hog's Holler in her husband's tie truck with a set of triplets on each knee. We would have liked to stop in to talk to her, but our time was limited. We rode on into the- twilight headed for Mr, Rainier National Park to see DON FUCHS and DICK HALL, still the Mutt and Jeff pair, now working for the Park Service. They told us they were still trying to figure a formula or method for melting the glaciers on Mt. Rainier. As we talked to Don and Dick, they recalled that one day two tourists stopped to ask directions to Longmire, Their faces seemed familiar, and they asked their names. One was CARRELL ANDERSON, who is now on the stage as Bubbles, the Bubbly Bubble Dancer at the Last Hope Theatre in the big city of Oshkosh, Michigan. The other was BETTY PIERSON, Betty is an Old maid schoolmarm, hornrimmed spectacles and all, teaching in Lover's Leap, Kentucky, Also, Don and Dick had had a visit one day with our principal, Mr, Cebull, who said he is now Superin- tendent of Schools in Salem, Oregon, Our two months' vacation was almost gone, We, Beulah and Ruby, had to head for home and our work, We are operating our own airport and getting rich fast. One of the first events of the year was Freshman Initiation, sponsored by the Sophomores, which made us full-fledged high school members. Most of us thought it was great fun. Some of the things wom were knee boots, gunny sacks, baby bonnets, and night gowns, with garlic or onions worn around the neck. At the Sophomores' command we had to kneel and say hyperbolicperabaloid. That night there was more, like the electric chair and eating macaroni soaked in vinegar. On October 20, we returned the Sophomores with a party. It was very successful. Joyce was elected as one of the yell-leaders and Carole Fuchs was elected as one of the five majorettes. Robert Dessel was voted most improved football player. Each new member had to recite 5 lines of Shakespeare at the party that night. While receiving their pins, each member held a lighted candle, the Sophomores taking the oath. The Cowlitz Valley Kids Club, sponsored by the Torch Society was continued this year. The Torch Society was organized and put into effect by the Seattle Schools, lt is a' combination of the best points of other Societies. The purpose of the Torch Society is to promote school citizenship, scholarship, school spirit, and good fellowship by creating interest among students in as many different lines of activities as he can take part in advantageously, For a student to achieve membership in the Torch Society, he must have earned 28 points during his first year of high school. The points are based on the following: For each A earned at the end of the semester, 5 points are given: each B grade earns 3 points: a C is valued at 2 points: a D has no point value: an X grade receiving a -2 points. A student having a B average in some subjects and not in others, may be exempt from these particular studies in semester tests. Also a student must not have been absent more than 3 days, carrying at least 4 subjects, and having been a good citizen of the school to be exempt, Because of this ruling, all Torch members have been granted the privilege of being excused from the quarter examinations as well as the semester tests with a B aver- age and if the teacher agrees. Each member shall receive a silver pin with an orange bar on black enamel, representing each year he has been in Torch. fTorch members not shown in picture are Jean Hall and Myrtle Cates.J 23 he SW!
