Wait for me, I forgot my coat often cuts through the early morning air as bus drivers Adams and Harrison make their rounds. Bandmen late? Never! say Dewey and Chloe after a grueling thousand miles with the exuberant musicians. Parting is such-a nuisancen says Clyde, tearing the protesting varsity team from their lady loves so the coaches can feed them and tuck them safely in bed. Master Mechanic Warner tightens the bolts, les- sens the jolts, and keeps the fleet of busses on wheels with never a protest. Prowlers, disturbers, visitors, and strays-especiab ly cat-all come in for a share of Mr. Byrd's atten- A stitch in time or a Word to the wise either is all a part of the motherly Mrs. Criddle's day as she goes about h'er duties. From Smokey's magic workshop come fascinating things: gingerbread houses, windmills, log cabins, fairy palaces, and gentle words to wee folks-all perfumed with the essence of El Ropo No. 5. As book-jockey and assistant milk-man Bobby finds a variety of jobs to keep him busy. Toad, the blond duplicate of Dago, goes quietly about his job making cleanliness a reality. Nat, White Oak's first custodian reminisces about The old days, but he doesn't call them good old days.
