Ivy covers the walls of the building housing one of the best libraries in East Texas, and ultra-modern lines and perfect acoustics describe the home of the famous Roughneck Band. Pre- dating these buildings, is the school cafe- teria, squat, sturdy, and substantial. En- largement plans are now being made to make this building meet present demands more adequately. DEDICATION To the White Oak students of today and to the students of yesterday and tomorrow, we proudly dedicate the 1954 ROUGHNECK. On their loyalty in every phase of school life, on their eager enthusiasm in their school's progress, on their indestructible pride in their school's accomplishments, and 011 their earnest endeavor to sustain their heritage and to pass it on untarnished, we focus our TV camera . . . the eyes of time. To the students of the past we say thanks for giving us high standards to meetg to the students of tomorrow We pass this record of 19541, and to the students of today we present these compiled memories of your 1953-54 school year . . .YOUR ROUGHNECK. In an itinerary that began with parades at Cladewater, Kilgore, Longview, and Little Rock, Arkansas, they finished with a splash of glory by representing the Uni- versity of Arkansas in the Arkansas-Baylor game at Waco. Other activities include winning a first in the Interscholastic League Marching Contest, participation in the League Solo and Ensemble, Concert and Sight-Reading Contests, a spring con- cert for the community, and a trip to Dallas, by several band- men, to play with the All-State Band. Besides practice for con- tests, preparation for a trip to New York City to represent the local Lions at Lions' International has kept bandmen and par- ents busy during the spring.
