BASKETBALL The Knox High basketball team this year placed Knox on the map-not with a mere dot, but a gigantic crash. Just lots of credit, congratulations, and all of that sort is in line for the fellows who made up this team. Their superb ability and cooperation, displayed in many thrilling games through the season, have brought acclaim from all sides. It took a great deal to convince these guys that they couldn't be league champs, but after a solid bit of proverbial debating, the fellows settled for second place in the northern league of Clarion County. And now for the team's personnel-Captain of the tive who won twelve out of their nineteen games was Frank Moore. Frank fin- ished his third and last year of basketball for K. H. S. this 44 season. Running a close second to Frank's high scoring of 157 was Eugene Rhoads with a neat 151. Gene came to our school as a junior with two years of basketball already to his creditg now as a senior he has com- pleted his fourth cage season. Next to receive comments age tlwo srmiors who played a very smooth defensive game. They are the only two guys who can go into a game, ruff it up, and still come out on the long end. They are Sam Bright and Royce Bowser. John Barger and Louis Stahlman served their first year on the varsity as juniors. Louis gained recognition as a guard and John as a center. Incidentally, the latter was third high scorer. As awards, the senior boys were presented with jacket sweaters and letters, while the underclassmen received just the letters. For the boys who graduate, this basketball season of 1944 will be a lasting memory. And to those who will next year and the following years have the opportunity to play for K. H. S., it will be a goal to strive for and a standard to uphold. ,f The 1944 White Memo 33
