CLASS HISTORY The graduating class of 1956 began as freshmen in September of 1952. Their officers were: President, Joann VanderBollg Vice-President, Marilyn Kingg Secretary, Don J ohnsong and Treas- urer, Dick Woirol. The Student Council representatives were Tom Koski, Ann Covell, and Kaj Sorenson. Throughout the year the class collected four new members, Roberta Wetmore, Leon Herring, Earl Lathrop, and Shirley Larson. Our first big dance was called the Hillbilly Hop. The freshman year surmotuited, the '56 grads went on to bigger and better things. The new officers were: President, Joe O'Connellg Vice-President, Kaj Sorensong Secretary, Don J ohnsong and Treasurer, Dick Woirol. The new Student Council members were Barry Powell and Ron Gradyg Ann Covell, Tom Koski, and Kaj Sorenson were re-elected as members. Transfer students were Jackie Maslen and Frank Brooks. No one remembers the name of the three-hour dance but every- one remembers the frantic work put into it. The class held its party at Crystal Lake, the first of its three parties held there. The Class of '56 was not to be out done in the traditional prom. From the beginning of the year President, Marilyn King: Vice-President, Mark Gustafson: Secretary, Sharon Collins, and Treasurer, Cheryl Anderson planned and worked on the Prom arrangements. The Student Council representatives for the junior year were Tom Koski, Ron Grady, Kaj Sorenson, Ann Covell, and Barry Powell. Don J ohnson's homecoming float committee won the first prize with their replica of the new high school. New students, Anne Risden, Carol Casselman, Becky Berlin, and Marian Zimmerman, did their part in adding to the general hustle, The spring dance, Fool's Folly. was held on April 1 and will long be remembered for its unique decorations, the use of every holiday. Finally, the big night. The J unior-Senior Prom, the Starlight Fantasy, was held at the Masonic Temple in Muskegon, The senior year at lastl Three new students, Helen Meier, Bill Meikle, and Jim Park, entered the graduating class. The Student Council was well represented by seniorsg Barry Powell, President: Ann Covell, Recording Secretary: and Kaj Sorensen, Treasurer. The regular repre- sentatives for the class were Cheryl Andersen, Tom Koski, and Jim Martin. The class officers: President, Mark Gustafson, Vice -President, Joe O'ConnellgSecretary, Marilyn Kinggand Treasurer, Bobbie Wetmore, arranged the freshman initiation and presented the assembly on the afternoon of October 8. Mock elections were held on December 14 and 15, the graduation pictures arrived the 16th, and the Christmas formal, Fantasy and Frost, was held on the 17th, First semester exams, Easter vacation, the prom, Skip Day, and then the final exams. The last semester flew by and at last we were ready to receive the diplomas for which we had waited. Four years of fun, study, and friendship ended, and yet, just beginning.
