Antler Staff Hopes or Greater Success The Antler placed third in the contest spon- sored by the Panhandle High School Press Associa- tion, but did not recieve recognition in the Texas High School Press Association. In October, the staff sponsored a very color- ful Oriental program for the coronation of the Antler Queen, Mary Ann Freeman. In October, also, the annual magazine sales campaign was conducted. Betty Kirby was the high salesman and Joyce Chapin was second. Total sales reached S701.69. Bucks' Tale Gains Tlzree Top Awar s The Bucks' Tale made acleansweep of the contests in which it was entered. It won first place in the Texas High School Press Association and the Panhandle High School Press Association, and received the highest rating, the Award of Distinguished Merit in the Interscholastic League Press Conference. In PHSP A, Darrell Ruthardt won second place in general columns and third place in sports columns, and Herschel Powell won second place in sports columns. In ILPC, Darrell took first place in news writingg and Ruth Preston, first in editorials. The usual rush at noon at the concession stand. fuclenf Councf The Student Council, headed by J ack Rey- nolds, president, and Principal Lawson Shaw, sponsor, began the year with an assembly at which new students and teachers were recognized. Later in the year the Council initiated the custom of beginning each program with thesalute to the flag and the reading of a scripture. To make money for its projects, theCouncil operated the coke machine, and was in charge of the concession stand during the noon hours, sold mums for the bi-district football game, and sold king-sized Nestle candy bars at Christmas. The girls won their third straight district title, going undefeated through district play. They won the bi-district over Sunray, 47-333 then in the regional tourney, they defeated Sundown 67-52 to advance to the final round, where they fell to Sudan, 61-60. Two of the girls graduate after four years of playing first string positions. During this time, Mary Ann Freeman and Marilyn Kotara have helped mark up 100 wins to only 15 losses. This season's record was 22 and 4. Freeman scored 3072 points during her four years and led the scorers again this year by marking up 759 points in 26 games for a29.2 per game average. .Tuanna Io Moore, a freshman, was runner-up with 382 points for a 14.7 average. Freeman was named on the all-district team for the fourth consecutive year, and Patsy Holloway and Sherry Hefner were also on theteam. Lou Howard and Marilyn Kotara received honorable mention.
