The advantages of such a design Were soon evident to all students, Who found everything centrally located and Well- organized. Alcoves make the shelves of books more accessible and con- ference rooms permit group research and discussion in the library Without disturbing other students. The red carpetingis not only attractive but also helps to reduce noise, another asset which makes our new library an ideal spot for research or reading. 24 DuWAYNE DEITZ DEAN BOYUM Social Problems 12 SOCIH1 Srudleg 10 B. White Bear has courses in debate, speech, and creative writing. Debate, now in its second year, has gained much enthusiasm from the students. Many students go on from here to debate competitively with other schools. Speech has always been a helpful sub- ject to everyone. This Course helps a student to communicate with others and gives him more confidence in speaking. Creative Writing, over the years, has been growing so that changes must be made to meet the demand. This course urges the student to use his ability and prepares him for college. BARBARA PETERSON Modern English Speech B. Outstanding performers in a losing cause in- cluded starting pitcher, jon Erickson and leading home- run hitter, Tom Guertin. The junior-Varsity and B -squad will have the job of filling gaps caused by graduating lettermen. As individuals, the records were bettered. In all areas, the boys put deter- mined effort into each contest. The weightmen, who led the team, were anchored by Dan Seebart and John Velin. This was the group responsible for thirteen of White Bear's eighteen points in the state meet. Steve Puffer and Charles Bell did a tremendous job by clearingthirteen feet in the pole vault.Phil Vierath led in the high jump with leaps near six feet. Runners who were exceptional: Tuchfarber, Clarke, Dwight and Steve Turbett. Here is the field in which we lost most of our men. All but Steve Turbett have graduated. Other seniors lost were the champion of weights, Seebart, and the superb vaulters, Steve Puffer and Charlie Bell. Although weakened by the losses of a few lettermen, the track team will strive to perform as wellas it did in '64, with the same enthusiasm as always. In a very impressive ceremony, Polly Bradbury was chosen to reign over the festivities. The Friday afternoon pep fest included a hilarious mock coronation put on by the faculty. The judge went ape and crowned Miss LaMonte as queen. The parade followed the pep fest and all the new choir members rode in their red wagons. That night at the game the Senior float carried away the trophy with their theme, Spook the Raiders . The Raiders were spoolied enough to give the Bears a 20-0 victory.
