611155 Today all sixteen members of the Senior Class have gathered to watch a television program. Science has made such giant strides in the past few years that it is now possible to set your tele- vision on the past, the present, or the future. Tonight we shall dial in on the past four years and see ourselves as freshmen. As the picture begins, we are enter- ing Mr. Bunn's classroom for the first time. Everything is very confusing as all twenty of us try to adjust ourselves to high school life. We don't have much class business in our freshman year, but, nevertheless, we elect officers: Keith Mayo, President: Faye Patterson, Vice-president: Faye Worre1l,Secretary and Treasurer. As the commercial ends, it is followed by the story of our sophomore year, 1955- 1956. We eem to have settleddown abit as sophomores. After Mrs . Payne calls the roll, we are grieved to notice the absence of Carolyn Coley, Virginia Sykes, and Faye Patterson. We are proud to add Mary Frances Wallace, Clarence Haire, and Faye Hinton to our ranks. We are quite sophistocated and very much interested in letting W.H.S. know that we are capable of transacting weighty matters of vast interest to us and,we hope,to others. We elect Jimmy Barnhill p re s ide ntg Windy Andersor vice-presidentg Jonnie Alford treasurerg and Faye Worrell secretary. We start to work on money-making projects. The project we enjoy most is the Second Annual Spring Festival. Our junior year, 1956-1957, brings back memories some pleasant, some unpleasant, but nevertheless memories. We are especially fond of Mrs. Ann Truitt because we were fortunate enough tohave the honor ofbeing her first class in Whitakers High School. Under her capable guidance, we begin our busy Junior year. As the roll is called, we find that we have lost Clarence Haire, Bobby Jones, and Billy P ridgen and gained Donnie Pittman, Dan Lawrence, and Jean Blackmon. We spend the entire year making money for the Junior- Senior banquet which we hold at Ricks Hotel B all room . W e enjoy making terraces, picket fences, and a wishing pond for the Junior-Senior banquet. I History see two Juniors paddling a boat early one morning before school. What on earth could they be doing? Ah! yes, they a r e getting water lilies for the banquet wishing pond. As the time comes around for the annual Junior play, we are proud to present a three act comedy, Me and My Shadow . Our long andhardweeks ofpractice are well repaid when we see the large audience present for our performance. With a sigh of regret, we turn off the televisionbecause we can remember without any assistance the fleeting days and events of our last year in high school. We realized that the expenses of our Senior year would be much more than those of our Junior year. So we lost no time in getting organized, elect- ing our annual staff, and launching our adve rtising campaign. For class officers we elected Jonnie Alford presi- dent, Bill Weaver vice-president,Brenda Price treasurer, Faye Worrell secre- tary, and Gwen Adcox reporter. One of the busiest and most exciting days of our senior year was the day the pictures were made for our annual. Athletics throughout the entire four years aroused much interest. Five of our boys were stalwarts of the baseball team: three,of the boys' basketball team. We talked about our Senior play all year, but it was spring before we finally found time for it. We hope those who saw it enjoyed it as much as we did. We enjoyed many parties during the year. We especially appreciated the supper given us by Mrs. Virginia Reid, a former teacher and the mother of one of our mascots. We realize as we prepare to leave school and step into the world that we owe very much to the wise guidance we have received from the faculty. We are deeply indebted to Mr. Daniel Lane and Mr. M, C. Collins , who were our principals for our four years in high school, for their wise counsel and their personal interest in each of us. We shall always love and cherish our Alma Mate r , for here we have learned to get along with others in work and play. May we always remember our Cla s s Motto! Within ourselves our future lies. Jonnie Alford, historian

To our principal, Mr. M. C. Collins,we give and bequeath a sense of relief that we are at last graduating. Item III. To our teachers we leave our keen sense of humor and our kindest r e g a r d s , without which we would have found school life painful indeed. Item IV. We give and bequeath to the Junior Class our well -known nerve, which they will need next year, and all the examination questions we have been given during the past years. Item V. To the Sophomore Class we leave our patience and ability to agree on all matters, also any notebooks, pencils, fountain pens, and unfinished lollypops. Item VI. To the young and unsophisti- cated Freshmen, we leave a map of the school building, so they will not get lo s t and roam around in everybody' s way look- ing for classrooms. Any property or personal possessions of this group that may remain in addition to the items specified are to be given to the School Board of Education to use as it sees fit. Finally, we do hereby name and appoint as the sole executer of this our last will and testament, our class advisor, Mrs. W. P. Thompson. In witness where of, this class of 1958, the testator, have set our hand and seal on this twentieth day of May in the year of 1958. Brenda Price Te stator
