G ass gfzstory One sunny mormng rn the month of September 1946 a party of young people came wandering 1nto the portals of Whetstone School They were gorgeously arrayed and everythlng about them be spoke a happy and carefree exrstence Mrs Stone the frrst grade teacher gu1ded them 1nto her classroom Eight of our present day class were in that group Those eager first graders were Iudy Gumther, Sandra Fauser, Anna and Calvln Campbell Ella Kelly M1lton Patterson, Edd1e Snyder and Richard Cotsmire Mrs Kroft guided us through our second year and Mlss Munel Crall taught us when we en tered the third grade During thrs year Anna and Calvin Campbell moved from our vicinity M1ss Edrth Moore taught us IH the fourth grade and Charles Frsher joined our class Our fifth grade was capably taught by Miss Ethel Gu1nther In our srxth year of school our shlp of education was manned by Mxss Gumther and Mrs Laura Thompson Alas' Those small boys and g1rls, who had so shyly entered Whetstone School s1x years be fore, were ready for Iunior H1gh Mrs Knowl on our advisor for both years ln junior I-hgh attempted to teach us how to grow up along with muslc and general scrence She seemed to understand us better than anyone else and d1d much to rel1eve us of the feehng of newness and strange surround lngs In the seventh grade we welcomed Larry Kocher to our class and Allen Bower jorned our group 1n the eighth grade September 1954 We had at last attalned the status of Freshmen True the upperclassmen tr1ed to show us how to behave, but many t1mes when detentron slips were passed out we were happy we d1dn't always follow their example We ll never forget our ln1t1at1on' Eddie Snyder sh1ver1ng on that cool October day arrayed ln a grass skrrt and a lei, dropplng hrs books to do the hula dance whenever a Sen1or commanded crawling up the stairs on our hands and knees at noon eatmg beans with a knrfe and the humihating experrence of wearing wide adheslve tape across our mouths during the evemng ceremomes so we could not protest when our halr was shampooed w1th raw egg and molasses We surv1ved and elected Rlchard Cotsmire our Pres1dent and Sandra Fauser our V1ce Pres1dent Iudy Gumther kept the records of our BCUVIIZISS and money wh1le Steve Cl1ne represented us rn the Student Councll Mr Probst served as our class adv1sor The next year we were happy to welcome back to our group Anna and Calvln Campbell and Lilllan Brady a newcomer We, as Sophomores, were ready to enjoy the Freshman In1t1at1on for we hadn't forgotten our tr1als and hum1l1at1ons Mr Probst again served as our class advtsor Th1s year we sold pens frlled w1th perfumed lnk and billfolds to help buy the large aquarlum ln the Lab Iudy Gurnther was our Pres1dent, Steve Cl1ne V1ce President Anna Campbell Secretary and M1lton Patterson guarded our Treasury Sandra Fauser represented us rn the Student Councll and D1ck Cotsmue saw to it that our activ1tles were written for the newspaper scrap dr1ve a square dance, and we enterta1ned the Seniors at the Ar11e Glenn Inn We used a Hawahan theme for the banquet and went to North Robinson School for the prom Our Iunlor Class play Pleased Ta Meetcha d1rected by Mrs Knowlton was g1ven before a capacrty crowd and voted a decrded success We were proud to have Eddle Snyder and Anna Campbell elected to the National Honor Soclety Th1s year we lost from our class Steve Clme and L1ll1an Brady Mr Charles Gates served as our class advisor Anna Campbell was Pres1dent Iudy Gurnther V1ce Pres1dent Milton again served as Treasurer Sandra Secretary Eddle Student Councll Representative and Ella Kelly kept the press 1nformed of our actlvrtles It is true, some 1mportant changes have occured since that far off September mormng ln 1954 Perhaps you w1ll f1nd lt hard to belleve that we are that same Freshman class now important Semors, but here we are at the end of those four years fresh and rosy looking as you see us now We have been happy this Sen1or year under the leadership of Mrs Knowlton Marte Fuller Jolned us maklng our number an even dozen Eddie is our Class President Iudy Gu1nther, V1ce Pres1dent Mane Fuller our Secretary Anna Campbell our Treasurer D1ck Cotsmire Student Council Representative and Sandra Fauser takes care of our news In October we planned and carr1ed out an amusing 1n1t1at1on ceremony for the Freshmen The evening party was enjoyed by the other h1gh school classes, some of the teachers a few parents and we beheve, even by the Freshmen We sponsored a round and square dance on Halloween and enjoyed a delightful dinner party at Morton at Chnstmas t1me Our class play Bolts And Nuts was dlrected by Mrs Knowlton and 1n sprte of Eddie Snyder and Allen Bower undergomg major surgery dunng the penod of rehearsals we pro duced the play successfully on February 14, to a capaclty crowd Our b1g project thls year was complllng the yearbook The Vtfhetstoman Eddie Snyder, Anna Campbell, and Iudy Guinther were elected as members 1n the National Honor Socrety Our class colors are blue and s1lver and the white carnatron 1S our class flower Our motto 1S W1llpower +Worth1ness Nealth On May 18 Reverend E G Corwm from Upper Sandusky w1ll dehver our Baccalaureate address class nxght w1ll be held May 20, and Reverend Ivan Immel from Dayton will speak at the Commencement, May 22 On May 23 the class will leave via Pennsylvania Railroad for New York and other points of interest in the East with Mr and Nlrs C R Knowlton as chaperones I I I I .
