A Look Into The Future THE REPORT OF A PSYCHIATRIST The members of the class of 1952 have been very much xnterested ln psychology Many of them havmg taken profound courses 1n such awe msplrmg phases of the subject as psy choanalysxs and psychlatry When the world renowned psych1atr1st Professor Abdullah Freudson Brllflng came to town and opened a consultmg room for the mentally unflt and the 1ntellectually unsettled all these earnest students rushed to see hun Now don't m1sunderstand me I am not 1mply1ng that they were unfxt mentally unbal anced or un anythmg They all acted funny sometlmes but there wasn't anythmg wrong w1th them that couldn t be cured by spendmg a few months 1n the state 1nst1tut1on for the feeble mlnded Well anyway on wlth my story It was suggested by one of the teachers that all of the members of the class pay a v1s1t to the professor to be psychoanalyzed One by one the Semors v1s1ted the professor Flnally I had a chance to enter h1s offlce No not because of any mental weakness but merely to collect the rent for my father who owns the bu1ld1ng Well the professor wasn t ln so to klll some t1me I read the magazlnes on the table After I d read Modern Pr1sc1lla for December 1910 and Grandpa s Home Compamon for Aprxl 1890 I looked around for somethmng else to read All I could f1nd was a black covered notebook at the ve ry bottom of the pxle It was fllled w1th closely typed notes And to my surprlse these notes were about my fellow students They were the professor s prlvate and genu1ne op1n1ons of those who had consulted h1m The f1rst page was wr1tten entlrely on the class presldent Melvln W1lcox who w1ll be three tlmes governor of the state of Confusxon and leader of the new progressive party HIS motto 15 All For One And That One Is Me He also w1ll be a candldate for the pres1dency but w1ll be defeated by one vote cast by hxs campa1gn manager On the second page were qu1te a few notes on the v1ce pres1dent of the class Joan Gallant who w1ll be a famous mventor Marrxed to Mr Moneybags h1mself she IS one the r1chest women 1n the world She has lnvented over one thousand labor savxng devlces all of wh1ch are blesslngs to humamty Among the best known products of her aglle bram are restwell mattresses for oyster beds mdestructlble leads for sllver penc1ls and exercxses for reduc1ng ones 1ncome tax It seems that those few months ln the 1nst1tut1on d1d her some good The th1rd member of the class that he exammed was the treasurer Woodrow Crock a stol1d slow mov1ng chap who w1ll never d1splay e1ther speed or ammatxon and can be trustec never to hurry He w1llf1nd h1s proper pos1t1on 1n lxfe early He w1ll become a plumber' asslstant the one who goes back for a left handed monkey wrench and can't fxnd It H w1ll contlnue 1n that restful occupatlon unt1l he f1nds one that IS a lot easxer On the fourth page was an analysxs of Gerry Corwln the secretary of the class She 15 a nervous 1nqu1s1t1ve type W1ll be a reporter and because of her xntense 1nterest 1n every body s busmess and her cast 1ron nerve wh1ch enables her to penetrate where she 1S not wanted wxthout embarrassment she w1ll be an excellent one In ten years t1me she w1ll be a natlonal celebrlty known as Polly Pry She w1ll be so alert that she w1ll lntervxew a cr1m1nalwh1le he 15 commxttlng the crlme and get tomorrow s news last week Arland Carxs or rather known as 'Mlke has two pages to h1mself The professor wrote that hxs case would be rather d1ff1cult and spent one whole page explalmng why It seems that when Mmke was a young baby he was always falhng on h1s head therefore h1s braxns were forced down 1nto the b1g toe of h1s rlght foot Whlle the professor was examlnmg h1s toe M1ke was explalmng to the professor what he would l1ke to be and sure enough the professor s analysxs proved that he was rlght M1ke's ambxtlon 1S to be an orchestra leader and composer of d1st1nct1on For f1ve years he w1ll be the leader of the 1nst1tute band and after fmmshmg extra schoolmg at Vassar a natlonally known glrls school Mlke may compose several songs or operas H15 hobby xs raxslng A1rdales as they remmded hlm of h1s mus1c1ans Arden Haycook an extremely mterestxng case has a letherg1c mmd the patxent type .
