A Look Into The Future One evemng after I had put the llttlest one to bed I paused to reflect on what had happened to the rest of the class You see there was LaVern Carr and the former Betty Mae Laughbaum They had settled down on Verny s farm after he returned from the war xn Korea He had gotten several medals over there wh1le Betty Mae worked ln an offrce here A lot of tlmes she had to work overtlme ln order to help get orders out to Korea Also Elleen Chrlstman who always protested that she was goxng to be an old maxd had rxsen to the he1ght of housewxfe There were now a couple of l1ttle Elleens and a couple of the opposlte sex, also runnlng around the house Now there was cute lxttle southern Bxtsy She was the sweetest 111 wa1tress Dxxxelan evah dxd see She had plenty of offers of marrxage from the b1g busmess tycoons whom she served but she always decllned You see she was sweet on the boss Then I had heard about Irene Excher It seems that she 15 now a Hollywood goss1p writer for the CHICAGO TRIBUNE She always dxd have a gxft of gab Gone quxte a ways at that The other day I happened to be readlng on the Z bomb newest lnventxon and lo and behold whose name dxd I see ln connectlon w1th xt than John Creen He wasn t merely an underlxng but he was the top research sclentxst I met Evelyn Johnson on the street the other day and stopped to talk She told me most of talkxng I notlced two of the best behaved chxldren standmg besxde us I asked her 1f she knew whose they were Land she sa1d those are m1ne I mxght have known She told me that Marvel was rlsmg rapxdly 1n a blg offlce ln New York Clty She started out as typlst to a buyer but when the buyer had to go to Arlzona for her health, they asked Marvel to assume her posltxon Now she 15 top buyer for the off1ce and she has all the travel that she can handle As for Dave It seems that he IS now foreman 1n the mattress testlng department of the Beauty Rest Mattress Company He needn t overtax h1s bra1n on thls type of job Evelyn Rankln IS now one of Hollywood s top haxr SpeC1311StS She IS always havlng trouble trymg to make Bette Dav1s look l1ke a teen ager It s gettmg sort of hard to make her look l1ke one any more Paramount has been wantlng her to take mother parts but Bette stead1ly re fuses Insxsts she msn t old enough for those parts yet Evelyn IS gettmg pretty good pay from her though She does a good job too 13 . Class H :story One br1ght sunny mornmg September 5 1939 Exleen Chnstman Evelyn Johnson Marvel Kurtz Betty Laughbaum Thelma Stoneman Frederlck Shlfley and B111 Zmmmerman of the present Semor Class enrolled ln the fxrst grade The followmg enrolled whxle we were mn grade school R1chard Speece and Evelyn Rankm fourth grade LaVern Carr flfth grade and John Green s1xth grade M1ss Irma Hemla M1ss Muriel Crall and M1ss Ethel Guxnther helped us through the flrst s1x grades Dav1d McDonald enrolled m our class when we were mn the seventh grade B1tsy DeMoss and Irene Excher Jomed us 1n the exghth After e1ght years of hard work we entered h1gh school The followmg assumed thexr responsxbxhtxes as class offlcers durxng our Freshman year R1chardSpeece presldent LaVern Carr vxce presxdent Evelyn Johnson secretary, Evelyn Rankzn treasurer The presldent and v1ce presldent were the student councll representatwes that year We had two class parties durmg the year Our advlsor was M1ss Helen K Sherer When we entered our Sophomore year Ahce Kurtz from New Mexxco had enrolled ln our class The offzcers chosen were LaVern Carr pres1dent Thelma Stonernan v1ce presxdent Ahce Kurtz secretary and treasurer and R1chard Speece student councxl representatmve Norman J Spxtzer was our class advxsor We had two class part1es at the school Mr Probst our Cxvzcs teacher took the Freshmen and Sophomores to v1s1t the Mansf1eld Reformatory Oh1o State Pemtentxary and the Feeble Mmded Instxtute at Orlent Ohlo These trlps were very mterestlng and educatlonal We started our Jumor year by electing our class officers Thelma Stoneman preszdent LaVern Carr vice preszdent Betty Laughbaum secretary R1chard Speece treasurer, and Marvel Kurtz student counc11 representatlve During the f1rst week of school we chose our class rmgs and recexved them November 5 1949 Our Junlor Class Play The Crazy Castles was presented November 30 1949 We sponsored a Donkey Basketball game December 14th Thls helped to fxnance the Jumor and Senxor Banquet M1ss Helen K. Sherer our advlsor helped us plan the banquet This was held at the Roehr House ln Bucyrus May 12 1950 After the dxnner the group went to the theater For our Semor year we elected as our offxcers R1chard Speece presxdent, LaVern Carr vxce presxdent Betty Laughbaum secretary Davld McDonald treasurer and Thelma Stoneman student councxl representatlve We had our graduatxon plctures taken October 19 1950 Another Donkey Basketball game was sponsored January Z 1951 After completxng twelve successful years we are lookxng forward to our Semor trxp Baccalaureate and Commencement 12 O p 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 I . . . . . A Look Into The Future Cont It seems that Fred IS now an agrlcultural expert farmer 1n other words He IS rather successful at that l-le had the h1gh8St yzeld of wheat per acre nn the county and second hlghest m the state I-Ie also has a m1ssus got her from Bucyrus I hear Have you heard about R1Ch8Td7 You more than lzkely have as he s on the radlo and hls name appears m prmt frequently As you perhaps know he s been elected Presxdent of the Umted Natxons th1s year He s gone quxte a ways w1th the educatlon started at our dear old Whetstone Thelma Stoneman went to college and came out at the top of the class as usual She 15 now teach1ng school somewhere 1n Crawford County I hear the schools are all v1e1ng for her serv1ces and that she IS now the hxghest paxd teacher 1n the local schools B111 s tale up to now has rema1ned untold I-le has a successful model agency in Memphms It makes hlm so mad every t1me a Hollywood talent scout comes around as they are forever takxng h1s models away from hxm Poor B1ll he has quxte a t1me of It I ve taken too long already I have to get the d1SheS done and the house stralghtened up before we get company We ve had a very successful class as a whole and I m proud of my classmates What Would School Hafve Been Wzthout Vaccxnatxons ?
