The German Club, an extension of German class, delved deeper into con- temporary Germany with a visit to the Maennerchor. Center, German stu- dents sway to Deutschland drinking songs. '1.'f,' clasp the hands and know the thoughts of men in other lands. Mastering a language involves both the speaking and the writing of it for Karen Dunham. John Masefield Constant conversation and composition in a foreign language brings first glimpses of the understanding of foreign concepts. Famil- iarity with alien cultures creates a thorough comprehension of not only the language, but also of its peoples. The student may grasp the nature of the country and its citizens by reading the Works of various foreign authors. He may explore the ideologies and motivations of whole nations of people formerly entirely unknown to him. One tries to develop a knowledge and apperception of the language so he may ar- ticulate his own thoughts and ideas through the language. And thus he creates an exten- sion of himself within another country's heritage.
