Together we have shared special times which brought us closer. Therefore, our theme was chosen specifically to express these feelings and memories. Now, as we begin to go our separate ways, it is these times which will remain with us always. . . . And what a time it was. Love, The Class of 79 16 ADMINISTRATION MR. SHAW — Superintendent MR. HIGH BASKETBALL DEDICATION LEO ’79 is dedicated to Wheeler High School. This dedication means a great deal to the class of 1979 since the decision as to just who has helped us the most through our school years is a difficult one. Our teachers, parents, administration, community and friends have played an important role which we feel should be recognized. Through the support provided by Wheeler, we have grown, matured, and learned to take on responsibility. The teachers and administration have aided us to develop emotionally and academically and, in doing so, have made us aware of our capabilities. Our parents have given us the love, patience, and guidance we needed to increase and recognize our individual personality and value. The community has supported and provided the education to which we have been so dependent during our years here at Wheeler, and our friends have always been there when we needed them. Choosing just one of these would not be fair, because they all have been equally important. Thus our dedication was chosen to represent and symbolize everyone who has helped the class of 1979. With gratitude, appreciation and thanks, the LEO ’79 is dedicated to our Wheeler High School. 68 69 EMMETT BRIAN AHEARN LIKED MOST: Mr. Tuch’s Great Art Room,” Sports, Aiello’s Drafting classes, and lunrh. Hurk 90 Note the Skate DANNY COCHRAN SUEJUDGE JON CHASTANG JEFF PROSSER 91 SPECIAL RECOGNITION THE CLASS OF 79 Mrs. Pukas Mr. Gagne 93 95 It is the year 1989, and once again the class of 79 is demonstrating their knack for celebrating. On this, their tenth reunion, the officers of the class decided to go somewhere different. Well, when they say different, I guess they mean it, because they’re holding the party at one of the hottest nightclubs — on Mars. It was the president of the class. Kathy Crandall, who had the idea, but she gives some of the credit to her vice-president, Debbie Brooks. here did they come up with an idea like that? After all, Debbie only sells drugs at her local pharmacy, but they’re all legal — right Debbie? I suppose a reunion on Mars isn’t too far out”, though, because it only takes fifteen minutes to get there from Wheeler’s spaceship base. As a matter of fact, it only took lead-foot” Jurgewiez three minutes, but that's understandable. For those of you earthlings who don’t know what Mars looks like, it is a little, round, green planet with millions of craters and, in each crater, there lives a little, round, green martian with a little, round, green head and, on each head, is a little, round, green eye. Now these martians aren’t exactly smart, but they do look a lot like the teachers back at Wheeler. Most of the guests have arrived and old friends are beginning to group together. The girls would be admiring Candy Mansfield's dress, but she, being always in style, isn't wearing one! Wally and Troy are flirting with the Martian girls; some things never change. Cheryl Sasko, who used to work in the theater's box office, and Dawne Massey, her manager, are talking about Cheryl’s latest movie, The Invasion of the Candy Snatchers. Girls, when are you going to make the minimum wage? Ronnie Collins, who sells sporting goods, and Wanda LeHouillier, his accountant, have just succeeded in selling the martians golf equipment. This turned the whole planet into a golf course. Now Donna Pintaro thinks the martians w ill bu her sailboats even though there isn’t even a little, round, green drop of water on Mars. Theresa Clark is now a famous illustrator of Marszanian books which are w ritten by Luney Linda Carlson. Joe McDermott reopened the North Stonington Mobile and now gets high selling spaceship fuel. Susy Mason has opened a Country Health Food Store ’ on Mars because her yogurt made with Francine Bruno’s goat’s milk was banned from Earth. Timex is gaining a monopoly on watch sales, so Steve Dilorio still pushes his Seikos with the slogan, I'd rather fight than sw itch . We are still awaiting the arrival of Hummer Lew is; has he been on time for anything in his life? Perhaps he was talking to the cows? Speaking of farms, Tom Purcell is the new owner of Arbor Acres, with Bill Meardy, as his assistant. Seen any good chicks lately? A surprising number of the members of the Class of '79 now live on Mars. Take Jeff McCloskey for example; Earth doesn't want him! Bruce Sawyer, Brenda Chase, and Tommy Leiper all have joined Mar’s fire department, but Tommy can't seem to convince the martians that his hair isn’t on fire. Emmett Ahearn is an architect — his strange buildings didn't sell well on Earth, but they sure are popular with the Martians. Cathy Figdore and Ellen Crouch sW40 96 Encounters the Kind love it on Mars, because everyone is their size. Dennis Garland loves it here because there arc many craters for him and his Martian friends to climb. Jeff Cahoon, Joe Gross, Mark Silvia, Scott Greene and Kim Pope have formed the wildest spacccycle pang on Mars. They call themselves the Martian Mashers” because they run down the little, round, green marlians. hen thev're not doing that, they fight over Harleys and Suzukis. Jeanne Hallett is a truck driver and hauls Keehler cookies around to the Martians — I guess she finally found out where they came from. The turkey for tonight's dinner has been donated to the class of ’79 by Farmer Brown — unknowingly, and is being prepared under the direction of Jackie Haines. All expenses will be for by Pat Quartella, the millionaire himself. Unfortunately, no one knows his business or where the money keeps coming from. Scott Greene has provided a variety of soda, but Bruce Leach and Doug DeBartolo say their kind of soda tastes much belter. Chris Reusl prepared the salad for tonight. Hey, Chris, how come everyone’s smoking it? We have to eat with our fingers tonight, because Timmy Smith cannot remember where he left the silverware. Dinner will be served late, because Elaine Hofer and Fran Johnson are in the back giggling with two little, round, green martians. I wonder what’s so funny? Joe Gross has contracted one of the best martian bands and the theme song for tonight will be lake Me Home Martian Roads”. Debi Ormsby and Laura Corrigan will be providing further entertainment. That should prove to be interesting! interesting! Finally, Nate Witcher and the Little, Round, Green Dancers will be dancing their little, round, green hearts out. Babysitting service will be provided by Gail Hunt and Owen Jarvis, but, if you really love your kids, I wouldn t leave them with those two. Rich White, Vicky Peitrowski, and Ginny Brown just walked in without their spouses. Oops, it could be trouble!! Finally, the last few stragglers have arrived. Donna Thompson, Carrie McKinister, and Jackie Haines have just gotten back from France, but this time without any chaperones. Straight from Denver, comes Chris Johnston, Jeff Rantanen, and Richard Ward where they have just started to paint Busch labels on the Rocky Mountains. Rocky Pietrowski is here but refuses to eat the turkey tonight because he brought some kielbasa from his new factory in Poland. Linda Beckwith and Brenda MacDougall have just come from 100 Blake St. and brought enough fitzwillies for everyone! It looks like Lisa Ames, who has just traveled all over the world, has finally found Sue Judge. Sue, 1 guess, has finally decided to come after all!! It has been a successful night; and the Class of ‘79 proved once again its ability to accomplish things and still have fun!! Now it’s down to Roxy’s led by Geri Davis and Peggy McQuillan to celebrate some more. The Class of 79 w ill be back in ten years to do it again with the big, fat, purple Plutonians on Pluto . . . 1 97 SUPERLATIVES 98 Shyest Holm Minor, Richard While ’There's no place like home.
