I, Joyce Palmer, leave Wheeler with all the great memories and fun times I had. wishing that I could only stay. Also I give to my family all my love and the thanks I sometimes forgot to show. I, Ellen Pelletier, leave Wheeler in the hopes that everyone in the future classes will get what they hope for the most, especially my brother Norman. Jay Whiting, leave my diploma with a good friend of mine, Ted Lewis, in case he doesn’t get his. I, Joy Zendzian, leave Wheeler High, which I love so much and will miss on many occasions, hoping that the faculty and administration will have extra patience, courage and insight when it comes to the classes of ’81, ’82 and ’83, hoping also that they will be offered at least as much as I was. Thank you Wheeler. Glm Not wanting to break tradition, the class of 1976 is now standing in the infamous cafeteria ready to embark on our 1986 class reunion. Things have remained basically the same — Carolyn Battersby didn’t show up. Marie Johnson is pregnant again, and Dave Garland came in his 15)68 Mustang which he still swears will fall apart any day. After entering North Stonington for the first time in ten years, everyone couldn’t help but notice how commercial it has become. Duane White, Paul Sylvia, Mike Childs, Tommy Cochran, and David Lewis have all pooled their resources to build a gas station. The last we heard, Duane was saying, I’d like our gas station to become as popular as Studebakers.” The North Stonington Raceway has just opened with Steve Shaw and Debbie Cipriani as owners. Their pit crew includes Carl Johnston, who gave up his electronics career after installing a NEW intercom system in the school. On the agricultural front, Myra Lewis has married Frank White to gain control of the White-Lewis cow and hay empire of southern North Stonington. Myra has hired Mike Taylor, Mike McAvoy, and Denise Crider as her trench managers. Another businessman, Mark Graber has opened his own bicycle shop. He seems to be doing a good business, but only after changing his franchise from Peugeot to Raleigh. Like in the old days, most of the people in the class have contributed to the success of our reunion. Nanette Caputo has offered us the use of her pizza shop. Located on the scenic banks of the Pawcatuck River in Westerly, it features the only 169 piece all-Italian marching band in southern Connecticut. Ed Page and Donald Mitchell have also offered their services by allowing us free choice of any groceries in the Mystic IGA. We’ve heard that Eddie has moved up in the world — he now manages both the dog food aisle and the frozen food section. Gary Lowe, we are informed, just made it back in time from a successful 6-week manhunt to attend our reunion. It seems he and Brett Thompson made another of their who-can-hunt-who-the-best bets. Gary attributes his success to all those Jim Kjelgaard books he read when he was a little boy. Unfortunately, Doris Roberts couldn’t come, but she did print an article about our reunion in her newspaper column, . Tell it to Doris.” We understand that her column is syndicated in 50 newspapers. We knew she’d get the publicity deserved. Cindy Pianka just walked in with a beautiful set of neon glasses which read, Mark, leave me alone.” She says she also has a pair that glow so that Arthuf can find her in the dark. Amid the glamor of our assembled class members, stand two figures clad in green. No, not the National Guard, but ★ Rosi Bromley and Debbie Hatfield who have become Connecticut’s leading forest conservationists. Later in the evening they plan on presenting a slide-tape documentary entitled, A watched forest never bums.” Over near the bandstand are two white-cloaked spiritual figures; Jamie Caswell and Joy Zendzian. They have just opened the first Church of the Holy Basketball Camp. They have Kevin Ames, Galon Olson, and Brad Ormsby as their directors. Mark Grimm and Mike Lothes are the head pastors. Their motto is Come and play; be saved today.” Speaking of camps, you may have noticed the absence of those delightful little creatures we call our children. The reason is that the Sammarco-Neff babysitting service has offered to watch them for us at their Mother Goose Nursery Camp. Their business has grown so large that they needed the services of Cecelia Misky, Lynn Jarvis, Donna Knapp, Hattie Geer, and Mona Murphy. Now that most of our guests” have been described, it’s time to begin the fun. We’re starting off with the first dance in which all the men dance with their high school sweethearts. Everyone’s been paired off except Margaret Austin, Linda Brayman, Laura Christian and Pam Hounslea. Unfortunately, being spiritual couriers for the Pope, they try to stay out of the limelight as much as possible. Cindy Campbell, Val Kinney, Terrie Schmidt, Desiree Debartolo and Patty Meardy aren’t dancing either. They feel that males choosing female partners is male chauvinism which is against the platform of the Woman’s Liberation Movement. Our next event is the drinking contest. Out of 31 starters, only Andre Comeau, Joe Kain, Jay Whiting, John Leiper, Ron Lee, Rich Geiler and John Gardner remain. Debbie Sasko, Heather Crofts, Melody Massey and Cheryl Hollis were the last four to be disqualified. The judges ruled them unfit to continue when they began making mad, passionate love to the French onion dip. In an effort to revive the old high school spirit, Matthew Lincoln and Mike Robichaud have initiated a one-sided game of spin the bottle between themselves, Christy Tirrell, Darlene White, Joyce Palmer, Ann Tennant, Alice Leach and Ellie Pelletier. I think they’ve given up on the spin the bottle part and are having a free-for-all. In an effort to divert our classmates from a night of total perversity. Fire Chief Rusty Rusich and Lieutenant Bob Falck have agreed to show us the latest fire fighting techniques. They’re now putting out an apparent fire in Matt Lincoln’s corner of the room. On the fire report, they plan to fill in the cause of the fire” slot with burning lust.” The motto of the class of 1976 was always continual change.” The class reunion has not disagreed with that motto. At the close of our reunion, it can be said that everyone had fun at changing your idea of a class reunion, except Elanai Fish, who has not lost her touch for being late. She just walked in mumbling: I overslept.” The cafeteria is empty now except for the memories of our reunion and hopes for future ones.
