THE CORE OF THE ISSUE Basic to all issues in life are the underlying principles in which actions and decisions are rooted. The principles represent the very core, the essence, of our being and, when followed with courage and conviction, tend to give direction to our lives. Principles that are truly significant tend to be handed from one generation to another and each applies the spirit of its times to innovate the basic. That man ‘‘should do good and avoid evil” is a principle as old as rational man. Its application over the centuries has varied with what societies and the individual consider to be “good” and ‘‘evil’’ Each generation has been given the task of determining how principles are to be innovated. Formal schooling is only one factor. The home, churches, society in general, forces from within our country, international pressures--all affect the very core of what is basic. The real essential, however, is each and every individual working from himself, diffusing that same dignity that he first owes himself to all with whom he deals. The doctrine of “doing to others what we would have others do to us” is executed at great sacrifice but therein lies the real worth and the significance of life. Congratulations to each of you. Eugene R. DiOrio Principal

It is with great pleasure that I extend to each member of the graduation class of 1968 my warmest congratulations. Although you leave with sharply etched memories of your years at Wheeler, time will gradually blur most of these memories. However, you may be sure that the impact of the four year segment of your life spent with us here will always be significant. Certain habits, personality traits and elements of your character development have now been formed and will remain part of you for the rest of your life. We trust that our contribution in this respect has been a positive one. We extend to you a cordial invitation to return to visit with us often during the ensuing years. Adolph M. Zukowski Superintendent of Schools
