Although we are but few in number, we have worked with spirit, thereby hoping to accomplish that which we have attempted. It has always been the high- est ambition ofthe class, that we succeed in accomplishing whateverwe undertake, and do it in such a way that we feel the task has beenworthy of our exertion. Many tangles have come up and we have spent much time in preparing it and we feel that we have put forth our best effort for its com- UQNA U X p 4, pletion. It is now ready for your inspection and we trust it f V will be favorably metby all, overlooking any errors, jokes or jests. Also we wish to extend our many thanks to those who have aided us, those who have advertised in our annual, if those who have subscribed for it and lastly to our teachers, ' who have spent so much time and patience with us. It is a bit more modern than it was in 1949, when we had our Jr. Prom. We see that all of our old classmates are gathering here for our annual class reunion. We have reserved a table for seventeen, which, atthis very moment, only a few chairs remain empty. At the head of our table is our former president, Jim Burge, who is now Vice- president of NIPSCO. Jim now has six blonde secretaries. The next chair is taken by Tom Marak, who is now working in the Screw and Bolt Factory and is taking all of his pay checks home to his family. JoAnn Ogle hasjust informed us that she has taken Sonja Henie's place as Queen of the 1969 Ice Follies. Seated across from JoAnn,is Jim Koeppen, better known as 'Tot' who was dis- charged from the Army last year. After 18 years in the service he reached the high position of buck private. He is loafing which is his favorite occupation anyway. The girl voted 'most likely to succeed' was Jo Anne Shaffer. She is now sec- retary to Barney Ilic and is still looking for a man! The boy voted umost likely to succeed' was Barney Ilic. He has succeeded in becoming president of the Carnagie-Illinois Steel Corporation and also the proud father of four sets of TWINS. Charles Huber, known to all of us as Squeak , was voted most popular. He is now a very popular plumber in Valparaiso. Seated next to him, is a woman in white. She is Catherine Marak. She enjoys her work as a nurse very much. As we look across the table, we see Francis Kalina who is now chief mechanic at the Chevrolet garage in Chicago. He has a beautiful home on the Lake Shore Drive. . Professor Jack Conrick just arrived with another college degree in his pocket. We now see Avis Hartwig who is now secretary to Senator Snodgrass in Wash- ington, D. C. , Irene Betz, the well known Powers model, has just finished an assignrnent for modeling all dresses for Sears, Roebuck and Co. Jim Jones has been promoted from stock clerk to manager of Harvey's Dime Store in Valparaiso. Melvin Tarnow is trying to decide which one of his dozen beauties he will marry. In his spare time he is farming. Helen Scotthas arrived late which is very natural for her as she never did make the first class in the morning fbookkeepingl. She is now employed as one of Jim's blond secretaries. Alvin Meyer is now owner of Superior Farm in our old home town. He is now a partner in Swift and Company. Last but not least, comes Jean Kraft who is now singing with Lauritz Melchior at the Cosmopolitan Opera House in Chicago. She is late because she had to take her daughter, Donna Jean, to take her lesson. As it is getting late we will leave you now and meet here again in twenty years. 10 .IA Illlll 81 IIIIIIKS .TOE BEAM V Janitor VIRGINIA HARDESTY - cook HANNAH BEAM - cook Compliments of LOWENSTINES' DEP. And to end it is the Class of fifty The years of which were mighty nifty. In history and government Joanne can't be beat, As our Ass't Editor, she's all reet. In studying ability she rates pretty high At first glance she seems serious, but oh my! Next comes a tall lad with dark, wavy hair, Who has a clever, sophisticated air. He was elected most popular this year, But plumbing seems to be Charlie's career. Next is a blonde who is fond of fun, As our gossip editor she rates an A-1. Ambition--sitting upon the boss's knee. Now, Helen! Could it be ? At a basketball game, coming down Each time he shoots he's sure to score, In athletics he aids the bruised and lame, You guessed it, Melvin is his name. Next comes Avis, our little lass Who loves to giggle in shorthand class. She is comical and full of fun And can amuse almost anyone. A man of many inches, and every inch .Tim will nicely fit into any tall girl's plan, A dignified role he was asked to play, But he is far from dignified any day. His personality and hairdo is supreme-- We all agree that Tom's sure keen. He dates a different girl wherever he goes And is smartly dressed from his head to his toes. Mathematics and Irene seem to agree For she likes bookkeeping and geometry. In her high school years she played her role well I know you will agree she surely is swell. For his variety of pictures, Alvin is noted, As our class photographer he was voted. Photography seems to be his ambition And we know he will try to fulfill his mission. the floor a man, 31 g MASS PIHM J Jeannie was yell leader in her high school years Now she's the one who deserves the cheers. In personality and charm she rated an A . I'm sure you will agree that she's O. K. Francis is known for stealing a few snoozes In study hall, history class, or wherever he chooses In bookkeeping class he did fairly well, But what he will be is hard to tell. Mitzie Marak is nice and tall But she apparently doesn't mind it at all. Her hair is pretty and always in stylei She always wears a great big smile. Who should come next, I'm sure everyone knows For he follows Jean C. wherever she goes. In sports he is super and lives in fame, .Tames of Dubie is his name. As Ruby Wilson she made a hit For JoAnn is known for her frolic and wit. She is happy, contented, carefree, and gay, And is ready for fun any day. On Commencement night, coming down the aisle You are sure to see a great big smile. I don't think you will have to use tact To help you spot this lad called Jack. Not a care in this world to worry this lad For he's slow, easy going, and seldom'sad. Koeppen's clothes are many and are always in style, To inherit them would be something worth while. Last, but not least in this line of fame Is a dark haired lad, Barney by name. A constant friend and companion was he To our Tom Marak and good Old Charlie. Mrs. Ackerman, our sponsor, was able and true As she shared our failures and achievements, too. She was friendly, congenial, and ready for fun As she so ably guided each one. We bid farewell, dear Wheeler High The class of '5O must say good-bye. Your cherished memories will bind each heart, As we may soon drift far apart. 32 AW lx s 15 2121321 N, .94 ef l Y' 45554 1, 2.3 , 11+ Q 51: Q1 A ..
