-ui M- -flilmv -M The Mustang--'so 1+ wwN1'M1 'i 11- History of Senior Class In the Month of September, 1929, some thirty-four enrolled as Digni- fied Seniors with the object in View of obtaining a diploma at the end of the term. Some of this group, however, were only sophomores last term, but on going to summer school, they took some of the junior work. In order for them to obtain a diploma, they realized that it would be very necessary to work hard and to do their best. A few of our group at the first of school took on the holy yoke of matrimony, while others thought they were needed at home. We were sorry to lose our classmates in this manner, however, there are about twenty-eight left to finish the term. The first thing that the seniors had to do at the very beginning of the school year was to elect class officers. A meeting was held for this purpose, and the house was open for nominations for president, vice-president, sec- retary and treasurer, class reporter and sergeant at arms, By an open vote, Florence Merriman became president, Rubye Lee Williams, vice-presi- dent, Jewel McCasland, secretary and treasurer, Frankie Carter, class re- porter, and Sam Begert, sergeant at arms. The most enthusiastic part of the year arrived when Mr. Sampson an- nounced that there would be a contest for football queen. The students of Wheeler High School were in a great stir of excitement until the fatal news struck with a bang. The sophomores won the race with Barbara Miller as the one who should help to lead the fighting Mustangs on to victory. The next enthusiasm that the school had was the contest for the best all around girl and boy in the high school. It is a great honor to have all of the essential qualities that go to make the best all around girl or boy, and Jaunita Maloy, a sophomore, and Stina Cain, a senior, hold these places respectively. The senior year thus far, has been filled with much enthusiasm, and the credit for the pleasure that we, as a class, have enjoyed, should be given to our faculty. School Was dismissed for a week at Christmas, and after returning, all of the seniors seemed very industrious and willing to do their part. They, as a class, seemed to realize that they would soon leave Wheeler High School far behind to enter a new life. Some will probably choose a college career while others will start out into the busy commercial and industrial world to reap something worth while. I am sure when the Seniors receive their di- plomas, they will thank their teachers for their worthy efforts, and, glad with their past achievement, leave old Wheeler High School far behind, not to forget, but to think of the happy days spent here and of the pleasant association of friends. -RUBYE LEE WILLIAMS. -lie---1' 3955, -qyf Page 17 ju.. -
