Wolverine Football Starts Out Right Row 1: L to R- Dale Stewart, Jeff Burgess, Bob Hock, Dave Nowak, Scott Ortkiese, Paul Cook, Jim Bangs, Dick DeVries, Ed Bradley John Hallberg. Row 3: L to R- Mike Freeman, Jeff Jackson, Greg Altig, Mike Spiotta, Bill Maher, Jeff Sevenich. The Varsity Wolverines started out their season right with a 26-6 victory over the Rich South Stars. This was the first football game ever to be played under home lights. The next game was a tough loss to Buffalo Grove, but the Wolverines came back strong and played their best game of the season by upsetting Glenbard North. Although the team was behind 29-18 with just a little over a minute left to play, the surprising Wolverines managed to score two touchdowns and win the game. A 2 , .. sf .ee fwxseffs'-' -- -i -K - - we undoubtedly the highlight of the season. The team was led by halfback Bill lVlaher, the only member of the team with varsity experience. Maher was voted lVlost Valuable Player. Under the excellent coaching of Head Coach Howard Barnes, the Wolverines finished up the season with a very respectable 2-6 record. The Varsity played well all season and lost several heartbreakers. With all team members returning, it's going to be Watch out for the Wolverinesl next year. The Varsity will come back strong next year and show a few teams how a Wolverine can fight. 79
