i i 7+ if Modern design of high school to aid students to teach selves From page 8 The real story of the high school can be written six months from now when the teachers and students are in the midst of this new teaching concept, Principal Harold Burshtan said. Burshtan, 43, lives in Whea- ton. The students will be treated as individuals and allowed to progress at their own rate in the academic subjects. Where possible, the students will be in small classes, Ideally, we'll be having the students teach themselves with teacher di- rection, Burshtan said. This individualized and flexible teaching method will actually put much more respon- sibility on the teachers' shoulders, Norman Jesperson, assistant principal, said. Almost two-thirds of the staff came from other schools within District 200. The teach- ers have been studying new teaching meth- ods ata special workshop. The one philosophy that we all share is individualized instruction. The teachers will pick it up from there, Burshtan said.
