0 E ACT PLAYS A tradition returned to Wheaton Central this year. Two ex- ceptional seniors and one talented junior had the opportunity to direct one-act plays. They used their talent to mold the student actors and actresses into two excellent casts. The Waltz of the Toreadors was directed by senior Charlie Jensen and junior Spike Spengel. This show was a French Farce , or an outrageous comedy . The basic plot concerned the tragedy and comedy of a love triangle: a general CCraig Sloanj, his hypochondriac wife CSuzanne Sokalskib, and his true lovefmistress QElizabeth Varnhagenj. The sub-plot re- volved around the general's two daughters CBrigette Kubin and Jenny Estermanj, who were constantly competing for the attention of the generaI's secretary Uay Johnstonj. Add to this a French maid QCourtney Gardnerj, a nannyfdressmaker CBeth Woodruffb, and a doctor CDave Brysonj, and you have one funny show. Where Have All the Lightning Bugs Gone ?, directed by senior Chris Mancini, was also a hysterical comedy. This show cen- tered around a couple in a park who held a very lively conver- sation, during which they pantomimed the actions of many different characters. The talent that actors Mike Crowl and Felicia Slattery showed in changing accents and attitudes kept the audience thoroughly entertained. 25
