Each class chose a different time era to repre- sent. Seniors threw a toga party, juniors relived the 60's, sophomores turned into gangsters and freshmen brought in the new year as baby Rhines. Working hard but still managing to have a lot of fun, enthusiastic students prepared feverishly for the big day. After the votes were all tallied the juniors kept up their tradition by creating an out- standing float and capturing the first place title for the second year in a row. ll fin 'fliwk -4,....-f hue.. Some of the musicals represented were Cabaret, Hello, Dolly, The Music Man, Oklahoma, and West Side Story. The concert, under the direction of Mr. Donald Daebelliehn, was a great success. ..... 1, Kit Ciesemeier sings, How Lovely to be a Woman. It featured Beth Chaplain as Ann Stanley, a forty-year-old woman learning about life and love. lt also featured Tim Wheeler as the mil- lionaire trying to woo her. Due to the excellent work of technical directors, Mr. Robert Klaper and Mr. john Re- ffett, and Director Martin Brackin, the multi-scened play was a success. S 6 Really, One could starve. Open Houses provided a change of pace for students at Wheaton North. Each Open House had a variety of songs and dances per- formed by different bands in the Wheaton area. Along with rock and roll and disco fever, Wheaton North captured the at- tention of many dancers provid- ing them with the opportunity to share steps and styles. Now, you be careful, Mr. Horace, and take your medicine. Horace would like to talk about it later. On january 26th and 27th, Wheaton North presented The Little Foxes, a drama written by Lillian Hellman. The story centered around Regina and Horace Giddens, Regina's brothers, Ben and Oscar, and her nephew, Leo. The conflict in their lives was caused by Ben's ambition to erect a cotton mill. He lacked 575,000 for the project and the brothers, with the help of Leo, plan- ned to steal 580,000 worth of Horace's bonds. Knowing that he wouldn't live much longer, Horace called for his deposit box, to discover that the bonds were gone. He tells Re- gina that the bonds were willed to her. The story continues with Regina trying to blackmail her brothers into giving her 75921 of the business or she will reveal the theft. The play was excel- lent as were the performances by the students. 25 Sadie Hawkins has always been a popular dance. lt gives the girls their one big chance to ask out the rnan of their dreams. Held on St. Patrick's Day, this year's dance had a great turnout. Everyone looked like charac- ters straight from Hee Haw and this added to the atmosphere of the dance. In the tradition of Sadie Haw- kins, some of the girls even took their guys to Marryin' Sam to get hitched SADIE HAVVKINS DANCE An overall view of the Barnyard Dance. THE WAY IT WAS - 1978 Anchored by 12 returning lettermen, the 1978 Falcons pro- duced one of the most potent offenses and stubborn defenses in the area. Compiling an 8-2 record, the Falcons were 6-1 during conference play, earning a tie for the top spot with West Chicago. Opening the season with two non-conference victories, the Falcons entered conference play as an underdog to Wheaton- Warrenville. lt wasn't until the third game of the season that the Falcons were even scored upon, and even that first score was an inconsequential touchdown by a thoroughly beaten Warren- ville team. On a cold Saturday at Glenbard South, the team survived its first real test with a thrilling come from behind win. The homecoming loss to co-champion West Chicago was over- come with two convincing victories the last two weeks of the regular season. The pinnacle of the season came when the team reached the IHSA playoffs for the first time in school history. Although they were defeated by Lake Forest in the first game, it was an exciting experience for all of us. The l.V. team was coached by Doug Porter, a Wheaton College graduate, who helped the team to a 14-4 season, coming in second in Conference after losing to Wheaton Central by two points. Although every girl added in some respect to the sucess ofthe team, the two outstanding players were Sue lorden and Ian Nash, both being elected to the All Conference Basketball Team. It's not whether you win or lose. . .That old cliche seem to fit this years softball team. For although they did not have a very successful season, they found it easy to have fun. One high point of their season was when they beat the Naperville Central Redskins, who were the conference champs. The Redskins had only two losses, and they were both to Wheaton North. There were three returning seniors this year, lan Nash, who played shortstop, Rita Fletcher who pitched and was voted the Most Valuable Player, and jackie Denson, who played third base. jackie was chosen for the All Conference team this year. Bridget Brown, janet Larson, Bert Garich, Beth Reninger and Wendy Farah were all returning members who added, in their own way, to the varsity team. Betsy Brown, Linda Anderson and Robin Gavin were three freshmen who also played varsity. The j.V. team, who was unfortunately not pictured, also had an enjoyable season and earned valuable ex- perience. With such young varsity and 1.V. players, next years team may have a promise of success.
