Central Sends Four To Boy's State Each spring approximately 1300 young men from high schools all over Illinois are chosen to attend the American Legion's Boy's State, which is held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Those chosen from Wheaton Central were Dave Bintz, Pete Mitchell, Dan Dion and john Zillman. Boy's State is, in effect, a miniature state which is divided into cities, counties and the State itself. Citizens are given the opportunity to run for various offices on each level of government. Seminars in various areas were also offered including law, leadership, civil defense and proper conducting of elections. Trips into Springfield and to historic sites in the area were also included. In a one week session, the representatives from Central were able to accomplish the following: Pete Mitchell and john Zillman were both elected aldermen of their respective citiesg Dan Dion was elected to the state central committee of his political party while Dave Bintz went the military route and ad- vanced to the rank of captain, 2nd Battalion of the Boy's State Militia. All four agree that the week was well spent and that it was an experience that none of them will forget. if ik af in -x v g ,k ir ik t ir tit. 'A' 'k i' 'k ir n A, 'k if , Qi. il 1, 'F I og!-f'!1'f,
