Due to numerous in- juries the team never played with its' regular offensive and defensive backfield. This had a large affect on their offense by having penalties, turnovers, and inconsistent ball control. The team coached by Ken Schreiner and jim Humay had one of the best defenses in the con- ference. The defense proved to be steady, and very stingy in giving up yardage and having points scored against them. The team played much better than their record of 2 Wins-6 loses, and 1 tie indicated, as they improved steadily. Coaches Dennis Wallon and Ed Ewoldt guided the sopho- more squad through a 3 win-5 loss record, while compiling a 3-4 record in conference play. An important factor was the competition was always much bigger, thus resulting in the Tigers being out-manned. The team improved steadily throughout the season, maintaining their good enthusiasm. The team suffered a great misfortune in that seven members, including five lettermen have moved away. This year's freshman football team under the direction of coaches Gary Heath, Al Baumgartner, and Noble Gardner savored a successful season. The A team finished the season with a 3 win-5 loss record, while the B team fin- ished with a 2 win-2 loss mark. Both teams were faced with unusually tough competition, and suffered a few tough breaks. All members of the team proved quick to learn the basic fundamentals of the game that were stressed to them.
