Mrs. Elizabeth Dunakin This year, the students of the Class of 1963 voted to dedicate the yearbook to Mrs. Elizabeth Dunakin. The WECOMI staff feels that Mrs. Dunakin is deserving of this honor and we are proud to be able to dedicate the yearbook to her. Mrs. Dunakin is indeed a remarkable person. She graduated from Wellesley College with a B.A. degree in history and government, and later received a law degree from North- western University. Not only has she taught at WCHS for eight years, but she has also served on the District 95 school board. Mrs. Dunakin has had the opportunity to travel in many European countries and in Canada. All of this experience plus that of raising three children has combined to give Mrs. Dunakin's students a rich oppor- tunity to learn. A lady of courage is a perfect description of Mrs. Dunakin. Few of us, if any, could have faced such an experience with her great deter- mination and courage. Possibly some of you may remember hearing an announcement at Christmas time last year saying that Mrs. Dunakin had been in a serious automobile accident. The student body didn't realize the serious pain and shock, or understand the terrifying possi ility of never walking again. This fall, however, Mrs. Dunakin returned to teaching at Wheaton. It is a rare person, indeed, who could have come back. It must have taken great courage to constantly navigate on crutches. Eventually, she replaced her crutches with a cane, and at Christmas she discarded her cane completely. When you see Mrs. Dunakin walking down the hall through the crowd of surging students, remember that this is a woman who has not only walked again, but has returned to teaching at great personal sacrifice to give her utmost to help mold the generations of tomorrow. THIS IS A SPECIAL WOMAN!
