Admiration can come easily, but respect and love come only after many years of patience and diligence in the cause of teaching. Mr. Colin has proved his right to these attributes through his years as a teacher, coach, and now as athletic director. We are proud to honor one whom we know as a patient, demanding teacher, and a great coach. THANK YOU We the editors wish to thank all the students, faculty mem- bers, and townspeople who have in any way aided in the preparation of material for the annual. Co-Editors DARRELL R. FROSH-SOPH FOOTBALL Under the direction of Coaches Colin and Longacre, this year ' s frosh-soph team compiled a record of 5 wins— 1 loss and 2 ties. They played good solid football and many fresh- men were seen in the action. Players like Gail Reed, Dick Denson, Jerry Hunsberger, Dave Cameron, Jesse Brewer, Bob Richards, Jim Quist, Sonny Kee, and Albert Harris, led the way to their winning season. They should produce the same results on the varsity in the coming years. 6 7 13 6 TEAM RECORD Glenbard 6 7 North Chicago 26 Sycamore 1 3 St. Charles 6 26 20 Naperville 6 (Homecoming) Dundee 7 DeKalb 7 West Chicago __ 7 h 49_i:.40 C , ■- Front row, left to right: Ferguson, Wright, Locke, Ashe, Sanchez, Balance, Christians, Rook, Kee, Stronn, Harris. FRESHMAN FOOTBALL The freshman year is one of fundamentals and condi- tioning. Coaches Sherman and Loveless were the instruc- tors, who have built the foundation for future varsity winners. Accepting their instructions, the boys worked hard and compiled a record of six wins and one loss. The team was big in size and large in number, which shows the interest that there is in football at Wheaton. Many of the players, by working hard, found themselves playing on Friday night with the sopho- mores. This experience will be of great benefit to them next year as they become the sopho- more team. There is a great deal of self-pride when a team has a winning season and the freshmen are off to a good start. -Hi Front row, left to right: Colin, Filkin, Nelson, Smith, Griffin. VARSITY BASKETBALL Playing a hot and cold brand of basketball, Coach Longacre ' s Tigers have ended their regular season with an eight wins— twelve losses record. This year ' s hoopsters were led by four seniors; staying in there with that old fight were Dick Nelson, Butch Colin, Dave Libby, and Ozzie Smith. 50 Glenl 58 Hindc sard - 3le 64 75 41 43 47 50 Sycamore _ 45 51 59 59 59 ' ' rr ' f M k 36 42 57 56 62 P w r 41 61 57 ' iH 54 fl ' iPlii A TEAM RECORD Dundee 54 67 York 69 57 Arlington 70 62 Leyden 62 Na pervi lie 63 Sycamore 47 St. Charles 54 Robinson 63 West Chicago 40 Glenbard 60 Dundee 74 Na per V i lie 55 Freeport 59 Crystal Lake 60 St. Charles 51 Rich 61 Downers Grove 55 West Chicago 39 Mooseheart 66 Front row, left to right: Denson, Reed, Kline, Shiek, Cameron. Such names as Denson, Reed, Kline, Shiek, and Cameron are sure to be seen on future Varsity in the next two years. With a very good record of 7-7, the Rhineys have shov n that there are better things to come next year. By taking third place in the tournament at Elgin, they ended the season on a good note. The team is one of the tallest ever to enter the Tiger lair. WRESTLING Wrestling at Wheaton has become one of the very most audience attracting sports. Much interest is shown not only by the participants, but by the student body as a whole. The team, this year, has compiled a not too impressive record of 6-8, having lost many of their matches to much larger schools and by very narrow margins. Coaches Garner and Gibson deserve much credit for their tutelage in this individual competition sport. The season was climaxed by the placing of three boys in the State Meet. Bill Johnstone, with a record of 12-3, and Dave Sheridan, 20-1, took first place in the sectional. Captain Dick Duncan, 23-2, not only took first in the sectional, but ended his high school career with a fourth place berth in the State finals.
