Sen hrs The day is one oT early, very egrly, September oT The year l942. The hour is unimporTanT. The place is The hallowed halls oT whaT has been called WheaTon's sweaTshop, buT is, in more culTured circles, known as WheaTon CommuniTy High School. To Tell The TruTh, we can'T exacTly remember whaT The weaTher was like on ThaT memorable day. IT musT have been hoT. Anyway, ThaT Too, when you come righT down To iT, is unimporTanT. The really big Thing abouT ThaT day was ThaT iT was The beginning oT The class oT 46's wonderTul career in high school. IT seems To us ThaT There is Too much sTress puT on The greenness OT The Treshman class, no maTTer whaT The year. Now Take Tor insTance, The Treshman year oT The class oT 46. Were They shy? Were They slow To caTch on? Were They noT handsome and inTelligenT? We all know The answers To These rheTori- cal quesTions. We all know ThaT The senior class has, ThroughouT These Tour evenTTul years, conducTed iTselT in The besT possible manner. Bob lvlcAssey, Brooks Wilder, Dick lmpey, and Jack Baschen have each lead our class well as our presidenTs. John Karner made a Tine presidenT oT STudenT ConTerence. There are many oTher disTinguished people in our class, oT course. However, we do noT wish To make This merely a lisT oT imporTanT sTudenTs. When iT cornes To ThaT, we consider all The members oT our class imporTanT. GeTTing back To ThaT SepTember day oT l942, iT was during a dark sTage oT The second world war. Singapore had Tallen. The allies had noT yeT invaded Africa. The Germans were pushing The Russians back. lT wasn'T a good Time Tor high school sTudenTs. We had oTher Things To Think abouT besides TooTball games and dances, which so many adulTs believed were our only Toods Tor ThoughT. And yeT. liTe, as Time, moves on no maTTer whaT happens, and There was The Treshman-sophomore recepTion, naTurally, and The ChrisTmas dance. There was The baskeTball season, and semesTer exams. There were so many new Things happening, ThaT by June, we had almosT TorgoTTen ThaT TirsT SepTember day. ln our sophomore year we, as experienced high school sTudenTs, inTroduced WheaTon high To The new Treshman class and gave Them one of The TinesT recepTions held in our school. As iuniors, we puT on a marvelous iunior prom aT The Baker HoTel which none oT us will soon TorgeT. ln This, our senior year, we have showed our meriTs To good advanTage. The senior girls' dance was a greaT success, as was The Hardwood Hop, and The ChrisTmas dance. Our TooTball Team won The l.iTTle Seven championship. The all-school picnic was greaT Tun, and Then, in early April, The senior class puT on Class NiTe, which was one oT The besT oT many class niTes in The pasT, having a beauTiTul sTage seT, and a Tloor show, and even scrubwomen To clean The place up. We held a senior diTch day, and a senior picnic. We wenT To The prom which was very nice-all we could have hoped Tor. And now, as we look back upon our TasT deparTing high school days, we suddenly realize whaT Tun we've had. We sTarTed our senior year in a world aT peace, and we move on inTo, noT war, buT normal lives. We've been lucky. The world is waiTing Tor us, and The senior class moves on Toward brighT horizons. 9
