Wheaton lends no exception. The size of the campus makes it almost mandatory to have not one or two, but several friends. These friendships are not restricted to Wheaton campus. Many spend weekends together, and just as many spend summers together. Most, however, build friendships that will last a lifetime. Yet this affliction, which by nature is grievous, is by virtue and providence made not unlovely. He that lost a friend has more cause of joy that he once had him, than of grief that he is taken away. The comfort of having a friend may be taken away, but not that of having had one. Let us Be ctor make the best of our friends, while we have them. for how long we shall keep them is uncertain. And let us not bury our friendship with our friends. We do not mourn the absent; why then the dead, who are effectually no other? For they are not gone, but are sent before. Seneca. i Le Pruzynski Class of 1980 — 1958- oo Helene’'s S presence, ‘at Wheaton was | haeenced by her infectious joy and her sincere love for others. She impressed all who knew her with her caring and her willingness to help. We have been touched by her spirit of enthusiasm, her positive outlook, and her dedication to the Wheaton com- munity. The memory of Helene will always remain with us, and will remind and encourage us to grow and strive toward our fullest potential. - The Class of 1980 dedicates this yearbook to Helene with love, and grate- ful appreciation for sharing herself so unselfishly with us. uoneoipap PEs ore nt fi ais ane Midi SEM eee opening Sports, Arts, Living, and Learning : be aed “ = cr he Wheaton is not just academics. Exercise comes in many forms: There is organ- ized sports, weights, swim-_ ming, and just plain running around and doing whatever. To construct a typical day at Wheaton one has to include the sports. Wheaton has. many sports teams for which they can be very proud. This year, for our physical fitness a new weight room was _ con- structed and utilized by the majority of the students. No one needs to describe the action because it is so evi- dent. In the next few pages — you will be presented with many different views of all the players; varsity, intra-- mural, and just plain stu-— dents having fun. We have - given no descriptions as we feel it is only proper that you construct your own images and rely on your imagination to determine what it is that the players and performers are actually doing and feeling. We all participated in sports of one kind or another while in school, so we all know what - to imagine. assole] 61 lacrosse 62 aSSO1IP] 63 lacrosse Learning and Loving assolOP] 65 S]10ds 66 Archery and Field Hockey sjiods 67 sports 68 Tennis, Dancing, soadicmmricsnecnti and Paddle Tennis s}1ods 69 sports suo} 71 softball 72 Softball 11eqyos softball Hard work wa WORKS LS Be to PRS ie OP ee Ses oan 1lequyos softball ees Saree A xb er Ss hd a pling rl Winning and Losing Tlequyos fun sports - a shamans? ‘4 eet eet em oT Cie -— os sane see Ro es 2 NR Para 3 AF ’ a seater ame ai Srnis eearteccnass ” , . Pars, Editor-in-Chief EDITORIAL BOARD This yearbook has been under construction for a long time. It was built against all odds: constant challenging from the administration, the photog- rapher being banned from the court from taking pictures at Wheaton due to a breach of contract with his photography company, and the Taylor Representative changing companies at the end of the school year. All these things took sections out of the building block along the way. There are several people who need to be mentioned to do justice to this book being published. First, my unending thanks to Jill Tuttle who kept things together after I left in December — you could call her my on-campus representative. To Sandy Warfield who took over most of the photogra- phy duties when the photographer stopped in the middle of March. To that end Joe Geoffroy should be thanked for providing us with the best pictures the Wheaton yearbook has seen while he was still working with us. Jeff Parker, the eastern regional manager for Taylor Publishing Co. who helped through the critical last few weeks and sent a representative to hand deliver the remainder of the yearbook to Texas. Of course this discussion would not be complete without thanking Arnie Lohman. Although things did get all messed up at the end of the semester, having worked with him for two years we owe him our undying thanks for always being there, and more importantly for his pain- staking wo rk with the special effects in this book. Although this book was built around much controversy, it is nevertheless a great book. My final thanks has to go to my family and friends who supported me during the times when I was ready to pull my hair out. To all, I say thank you.
