CLASSICS Our present civilization finds many of its roots in ancient Greece and Rome. The Classics department offers courses in ancient art, literature and history which make the student more aware of the class- ical influences on following eras. Brooks Levy, A.M. HISTORY The knowledge of the past which the History department provides is essential in understanding the present state of the world. This department offers survey courses for students seeking only a general view of history. For those wishing a more detailed study, specific courses investigate different periods as well as explore the de- velopment of various aspects of culture and government. The consideration of al- most all facets of man’s progress from early times to the present, represented by courses ranging from classical Greek and Roman civilization to contemporary Eu- ropean and American culture, permits every student to study what she feels to be of value to her.
