Triton technique in the Betty Turner style her team defeated the freshmen in a “‘night game” to win the coveted first place. Freshman Kay Garrigues was crowned queen of the tennis court in the fall when she defeated Terry Coatsworth, sophomore runner-up. Tritons, under the direction of Dee Ensko, presented its first pageant in April. Diving, speed, and form were the basis of the class swimming meets which the sophomores won. In basketball the freshmen set a record by winning every game of the season. Interclass competition has always been almost as keen as varsity in this sport, and it shared laurels with badminton. Sts and Lexington Campus enthusiasm for interclass competition instead of varsity resulted this year in heated rivalry for championships in the sports world. Bud Creighton, flash of the hockey field and star for four years on the basketball court, was president of the Athletic Association. Vice-president Betty Cahall and secretary Les Finn were mainstays on their basketball and hockey teams while Peggy Wing, treasurer, was one of those famous Tritons. The fall Riding Meet with House in the Pines was the only intercollegiate Bud meet held all year. Captained by Sis Rabe and directed by Lucille Donle, the riding team thrilled the spectators by recapturing the cup for the drill and trotting off with the laurels in almost all the competitive classes. Sis took first place with ribbon and trophy in the championship class. Hockey was fought with high spirits to the bitter end. The play-off games were as eagerly attended as the former varsity games, and with much cheering from all the classes, the sophomores ran off with the championship. Captain Les Finn and [ 16 |
