Fighting up to the last strike, Sherm even surprises the empty-handed catcher! WARRIORS LOOK TO THE FUTURE With a resounding crash, Wheaton fell! Scoring run after run, Chicago Christian took ad- vantage of the Warriors' silent bats and badly mangled them 'IO to 3! Still fighting gamely, the battle-scarred Warriors straightened painfully and collided with Luther North. Quickly the Lutherans scored 7 runs! Bucking back for 6 big counters in the 6th, Wheaton closed the yawning gap! Only a 7th inning double play handed them another defeat - 7 to 6! Frantically waving for help, the fast-sinking Wheatonites again swallowed bitter defeat! Walther Luther, coming from behind, scored 4 climaxing runs to put the game on ice - 7 to 4! Weary and discouraged, the Warriors fell heavily before powerful North Shore! Continuous pounding brought the winners 13 runs while Wheaton clutched helplessly to only l! Crack! Almost musically Wheaton's bats smacked the ball! Four lst inning walks backed by Tillman's double and Skonberg's single, scored 3 runs! But Glen Park, rallying with 4 of their own, blew out the faint flicker of hope - 8 to 4! Swirling mucky water closed over the Warriors proud heads! Playing shorthanded due to the Senior Sneak, the remaining players succumbed to Glenwood 5 to 2! A dreadful season . . . perhaps! But remember that every season can't always be successful! Still, hidden somewhere behind this year's discouraging record, there lies the seed that will soon blossom forth . . . victorious! Where's the ball comin from? ever one asks as Arthur signals the runner to slide. 9 Y

Third row: Coach Harris, Burbride, Hocking, Carlson, Havens, Thorne, Copeland Andrews. Fourth row: Landrey, Dobbs, Harris, Hollingsworth, Hare. Turning gamely into the home stretch, a sudden hot gust of wind blows into the runner's parched mouth! Like leaden pistons those weary legs pump! Behind comes the eager crunching spikes! Spurred on, the runner, completely oblivious to the roaring crowd, sees only the 'Finishing line! For some reason those last few yards always seem the toughest! Usually each trackman tries to save a little extra for that final haul. With this motive in mind, every new season the determined cindermen endeavor to not only build up speed but also en- durance. Thus, the achievement of such a goal rests mostly on the individual but Coach Harris and Coach LeMaire do proivde stimulating exercises! Soon strenuous practise began to remedy the weaker areas of the team. Daily the pole vaulters practised, jumping higher and higher! Stretching constantly for more height, Rockness worked on the high iump. Sullivan, running with great bulging strides, showed tremendous potential! 0 Carl Seeland Dave Rockness Jack Hocking Discus High iump Shot put at
