The Warriors took the field for the first game with a starting eleven that averaged only 155 pounds, probably the smallest in the league. Yet, when the smoke had cleared away seven weeks later, we had compiled a record of four wins and three losses, and were higher in the final league standings than we had been in many years. We played a spirited brand of football which indeed bore out the testimony of the school and the testimony of each boy that played. Truly the Lord blessed us, and enabled us to set the pace for winning teams in the future. XWe got off to an unfortunate beginning when I-Iartard got a big break and capitalized on it in the third quarter for the games lone touchdown. Previous to that break, we had run the defending league champs all over the field, getting inside their 20-yard line five times. The story changed the following week as we romped over Parker after letting them hold us even for almost three quarters. We successfully opened play on our own home field by nosing out Elmhurn Catholic in a non-conference game by virtue of an eleven-yard run after a recovered fumble in the second quarter. North Park, a team which outweighed us thirty pounds to the man, furnished our homecoming opposition and had to go all out in the second half after we had held them well for the first two periods. The fighting Warrior spirit was emphasized in the second half of the Luzher game after we had been scoreless in the two quarters. It was Luther's homecoming and we sent their fans home disappoinuted as we lashed out with a passing and running attack that baffled our opponent completely and turned the game into a runaway. Definitely the most heartbreaking game of the season was against Latin, as they nosed us out in the last minute of play on a safety in our end zone. A successful ending to a successful season was attained against Todd in a lopsided contest which saw our ALL-CON- FERENCE end, Jim Rexilius, snag three touchdown passes from Dave McCarrell, good for 143 yards. Two other Warriors were also given the honor of being named to the ALL-CONFERENCE first team at the close of the season. They were Ned Duffield, center, and Dave Bayert, tackle.
