Mawiiw .asm ru .1 , a reuiua Sweeping over our campus this year vve have seen a great povver. Truly the Lord has been with us in a very real vvay. The reality of the presence of the Holy Spirit has hovered over us moment by moment-on every ottasion. XVe have seen His quiet, but forceful stirring, the miraculous and powerful way in which lle has moved and worked in eaeh of our lives. He has brought us to know ourselves as individuals and at the same time united us into one body-students and faculty alike. A sweet harmony. a spirit of love and good will has prevailed. And it was all brought about in the XY'heaton revival. The evangelistic services of the first semester aroused our Consciousness of a need for revival. The working of the Holy Spirit was evident in different happenings that seemed at the time to be isolated but were really in the plan of the Lord. Then it was in the second semester serv- iees that each person began to realize his part in it. We saw thrilling answers to earnest prayers for ourselves and our schoolmates. The resulting change in the atmosphere of the school was a real blessing from the hand of the Lord, for which we praise Him. Truly, a jubilee Year ! These, how- ever, were more than programsg they brought the challenge ol lives exhausted for God in India, America, China, South America-lives empowered by the Spirit of God to do great things. Among these were Dr. lldman. Dr. Wftilter L. XVilson and others. Also included were many of our students' parents: Rev. P. H. Holsinger and Dr. Harold R. Seelye. Rev, Milton B. Lindberg, Mrs. Paul Frie-Qlerichsen, Mr. W. G, McCartney. A series of films including Dust or Destiny and The God of Creation was shown with great interest and blessing while programs planned by various classes with student participation proved to be not only interesting hut also rich in spiritual values. Tal-:ing its place as one of the most important phases of Academy spiritual life, junior League rnet each Tuesday night with lively, yet thoughtful singing, ringing testimonies. and inspiring mes- sages. More uniting than this. though. was the time spent in prayer-prajer that re- sulted in victory and blessing, One of the functions of League was the telling of the Saviour's love to others through the gospel teams. which wen: our on Sunday nights to various churches in the vicinity. Chords and discords which burst early each morning from a con- servatory practice room revealed a new addition to our Academy campus. The Warriors for Christ quartette could then be found rehearsing its role in our League activities, preparing diligently ibut usually at the last momentj, for its next gospel team activity. Pictured above, Paul Rie- mann ffirst tenorh, Wayne Lundy Csecond tenorb, Bill Roost Cbari- toneb, and Dave Bayert Cbassb work out a new arrangement. Artist Weldon Bedell portrayed The Sinking of the Titanic for the League audience. The chalk-talk illustrated that people in gay ignorance were plunging into a hopeless eternity. The Christian is sent to give them Christ and save them from their peril. If the warning is un- heeded, they shall find, as the passengers and crew of the Titanic, the day of sal- vation is past, and they are lost. ff 1-i 4 HV n wg, With this great challenge in view, League helps to support the Hydenburkes, who are missionaries to Iran. Also, this year, League sponsored a book drive in order to assist missionaries to establish a Christian college in the Philippine ls- lands. . vb ' W0 ao Jura! A harmonious chorus of well blended voices ably directed by our own Miss Stanley and fully dedicated to the service of our Lord, our Glee Club made its first seasonal appearance early in December with a very successful Christmas concert. The months which followed, although filled with practicing, were far from humdrum, for this liveawire group could often be found in churches of the surrounding vicinity singing and testifying of the Saviour whom we love. After experiencing the Spirit's mov- ing on our campus, and His working in our hearts, this group progressed with redoubled effort and real earnestness to tell others of the joy and peace they had experienced. Traveling to Chicagoland Youth for Christ, the chorus witnessed of the re- vival so very real to them. For the first time in its history out Glee Club competed with other secondary schools in contests sponsored by the lllinois High School Association. With its annual spring concert this group ended a season in which the Lord's presence had been a reality. The Warriors took the field for the first game with a starting eleven that averaged only 155 pounds, probably the smallest in the league. Yet, when the smoke had cleared away seven weeks later, we had compiled a record of four wins and three losses, and were higher in the final league standings than we had been in many years. We played a spirited brand of football which indeed bore out the testimony of the school and the testimony of each boy that played. Truly the Lord blessed us, and enabled us to set the pace for winning teams in the future. XWe got off to an unfortunate beginning when I-Iartard got a big break and capitalized on it in the third quarter for the games lone touchdown. Previous to that break, we had run the defending league champs all over the field, getting inside their 20-yard line five times. The story changed the following week as we romped over Parker after letting them hold us even for almost three quarters. We successfully opened play on our own home field by nosing out Elmhurn Catholic in a non-conference game by virtue of an eleven-yard run after a recovered fumble in the second quarter. North Park, a team which outweighed us thirty pounds to the man, furnished our homecoming opposition and had to go all out in the second half after we had held them well for the first two periods. The fighting Warrior spirit was emphasized in the second half of the Luzher game after we had been scoreless in the two quarters. It was Luther's homecoming and we sent their fans home disappoinuted as we lashed out with a passing and running attack that baffled our opponent completely and turned the game into a runaway. Definitely the most heartbreaking game of the season was against Latin, as they nosed us out in the last minute of play on a safety in our end zone. A successful ending to a successful season was attained against Todd in a lopsided contest which saw our ALL-CON- FERENCE end, Jim Rexilius, snag three touchdown passes from Dave McCarrell, good for 143 yards. Two other Warriors were also given the honor of being named to the ALL-CONFERENCE first team at the close of the season. They were Ned Duffield, center, and Dave Bayert, tackle. This was truly a fitting climax for a top-notch team and sealed the ending of a great season.
