JOURNALISM CLASS The Joumalism Class CEng1ish 43 of Wheatland High School is taught by Mr. Pielemeier. For the past 4 years the class has been publishing the school paper, the Jeep Ioumal, every two weeks. This paper is sent to many other schools over a wide area. The class also is in charge of producing the Senior annual, the Wheatland Echo. The class is a member of the Indiana High School Press association and for the past two years has sent delegates to the convention at Franklin. 1 VX 'IV' .' - .,'A 4 . With Miss Williams as the teacher, they were, as pictured above, left to right, row one-- Jerry McCraY, Joyce Larrison, Sue Brochin, Carol Stanczak, Beverly Overbay, and Carlin Smallp row two--Gerald Hill, Lee Roy Noble, Elmer Memering, Richard Emmons, Jack Jett, Kenneth Thompson, Jackie Brochin, Jimmy Smith, and Billy Longg row three--Jackqulin Hill, Mary Ann Riggles, Hazel McGee, Jane Wise, Doris Parker, Mary Fletcher, Betty Commer, and Frances Lagle. As we entered the Second Grade, we lost two of our classmates: Joyce Larrison and Elmer Memering. But in their place came Evelyn Ricker, Jerald Kelly and Janet Trubac. We had half of the Third Grade with us in the Second due to shortage of teachers. Our teacher was Mrs. Smith. Back by ourself we went to the Third Grade. Our teacher was Miss Ruess. We had many newcomers that yearg Richard Homer, Jerome Williams, David Winkle, Mary E. Marchino and Clara Alsman but as before they only took the place of the classmates who leftg Carolyn Brochin, Richard Emmons, Hazel McGee, Evelyn Ricker, Jimmy Smith, Donald Summit and Jerald Kelly. As we journeyed on to the fourth grade we gained three new members, Donald Howell, Oscar Theriac and Barbara Watkins. Our teacher was Miss Williams. The fifth grade was full of excitement as we got to go upstairs. New pupils were Mary Dillon, Patricia Steimle, Rex Early and Bill Fields. Our teacher was Mrs. Ettinger. We had Miss Meuser as sixth grade teacher. We also had four new students, James Clark, Clark Kelly, Donna Gilmore and Helen Branch. We lost one that year, Clara Alsman. Well, we finally reached the assembly: we were now seventh graders. We were very lost for a few weeks and really missed our recesses. We also elected a sponsor for the first time. He was Mr. I. C. Hedges. As we traveled on to the eighth grade, there was little change except we had two new members, Lee Hendrixson and John Jackson. Now came the first year of high school. We had many new subjects. Paul Dillon, Don- ald Frankum, Lee Hendrixson, Patty Steimle, Oscar Theriac, Lee Roy Noble, and Jerry Mc Cray left. James Granger, Kenny Hardiman and Ralph McCool were the newcomers. We elected as our Freshmen sponsor Miss Crysler. Our officers were President, Clark Kellyg Vice President, Mary Fletcher. Secretary, Judy Glenn, and Treasurer, Betty Commer. Time really seemed to pass quickly now, we were Silly Sophomores. We were sorry to see Betty Commer, John Jackson, Ralph McCool and Ronald Reel leave us. We chose as our sponsor Miss Hill. Officers were as follows: Jane Wise, Presidentg Helen Branch, Vice Presidentg Donna Gilmore, Secretary, Doris Parker, Treasurer. We now entered our junior year which was packed full of excitement. We gave our first class play A READY MADE FAMILY. We sponsored a Amateur Show for the first time in history of W, H. S. We alsohad the honor ofsponsoring a Ir. -Sr. trip to Niagara Falls and Canada. Jusy Glenn and Donna Mclvlillen left us. Our sponsor was Mr. Pielemeier. Officers were: Bill Long, President, Mary Fletcher, Vice President, Helen Branch, Secretary and Domta Gilmore, Treasurer. And now we 've entered the last lap of our adventure as dignified Seniors. We have had a very busy year. We have put out a year book which took much time. We published the Jeep Journal Bi-weekly. Our class play was April 28. Baccalaureate was held Sunday, May 4, in the Methodist Church, Rev. Duckett, speaker, and Commencement was the following Tuesday, May 6, 8:00 o'c1ock in the Wheatland High School Gym. The desire to travel to Mr. Botkin. A pair of earrnuffs to Mr. Weitz so he can't hear all the sour notes in the band. To Mr. Meuser, another good 4-H softball team. To Mrs. Wittenmeyer, a seventh grade class that won't run up and down the stairs. A power lawn mower to Delbert so he can mow the lawn before it snows. I I .4 cv is 'I N ,f 5 'I fl- .' vii 1 'f x 1 Today, April 15, 1972, we received a report of that idea1 class that graduated from Wheatland High School twenty years ago in 1952. Some of our dear old classmates saw Mr. Pielemeier on a street in Hollywood with his wife, a 5 foot ll inch peroxide blond, blue-eyed mamma--the former Miss Walla Walla of the Ringling Brothers Circus. Behind them tagged their twelve children, because they realized that they come Cheaper by the Dozen. As we go down the line, the first one we come upon is named Edward, after the famous Eddie Kelley of Wheatland High School. They thought this an appropriate name because Eddie is now the famous bachelor coach of our day, having the championship team at the University of Nebraska. He says that there is no hurry to get married because all the women just throw themselves at him and beg him to kiss them. X., The next is a cute little brat with pigtails, whose name is Opal. We took it for X granted that she is named after our dear sweet Mary Opal Dillon, Huh! Mary Opal is 'N now married and living in a cute little bungalow on the outskirts of Edwardsport. She ' teaches school, maybe because her husband is the township trustee. The next, standing there like a dear little angel is Margaret. Of course, we realize she is named after the famous dress designer, Mary Margaret Fletcher. She has a large designers' school in Paris, and as you can probably guess, she is engaged to one of her handsome pupils. J And now a husky lad comes forward, tagged with the name of Jack. Jack Jett advanced so far as to be the Mayor of the large City of Wheatland. V X I K: X . - He and his politicians are now in session at the new Wheatland City Hall where x,wQ,4Mv. X8 Jack is giving one ofhis usual three-hour speeches conceming the appointment -53.155 E bi' of a new dog catcher and garbage collector. Continuing down the line we see Jimmy. This fifth child of Mr. Pielemeier is branded after Jimmy Granger, who is now running a high-class junk yard in Washington. His business is good because Kenny Hardiman didn't pay too much attention to Mr. Page's safety class, therefore he is always wrecking his jalopy. Evidently ' the sixth child is named after Kenny, for he is rather reckless too. Kenny is married to a girl from Princeton, and W Q Q ll' ,jvi-x N1 Next we have a cute little miss whose name is Frances, nicknamed Dynamite. Frances Lagle is still booming like a Club. 'E 'Q ! '1 '9 l1 . . . . mining town. As a pastime, she is a dancer in a Westem Night The next little shrimp we come upon has brown hair and freckles, and not too oddly, his name is William Joseph, who now works at a saw mill. He only goes home to their cute little cottage once a week to see his dear wife, Joanne, and the twins. X j ALQ, A little girl with glasses is the next in line. Her name just happens to be Doris. fflfx ,Xp She reminds us of Doris Parker, who is now a nurse for the mentally ill at St. Elizabeth's 2 ' f ' Hospital in Pennsylvania. From her actions, some of the visitors can hardly tell her -g as from the patients. X' Little Janie, evidently named for Jane Wise, is really cute. Jane is now in 4 Nashville, Tennessee, where she is running an old maids' home. She makes plenty of dough that way. Jane says it is the only way to keep her mind off of men. r is ' 3 The next, moving about rather slowly, is named after Jerome Williams. By the N , way, Jerome was sent as the United States delegate to the Olympic games held in S' f Greece. He participated in the 500 yard dash. ------- Shall we say where he came in? The smallest of these is named Donna. Even though Donna wasn't with this class all year, we now see her and Bruce living very happily with their three children. S Therefore, we see that the Senior Class that graduated from Wheatland High School in 1952 are strung out all over the world. Perhaps they will take time off some time and have a get together around Wheatland, ill Y U Z Qtilmw my 44? fiiluunmllwb Ellwm i 1 'A X K '1- '-v-n::: 11:15 ' '91-:::-5: .,.. --, ' ',4.?Ex.gx2:r:r-15:33-: my ., Mi.. 4 f' .v..4,.,.n.:: as S :E 4:- X., Opal James Doris Frances 1' Jack Marg is iw. 214, I Jane Kenneth ,.
