academics Wheatfield School began in 1890 with two teachers. In 1910, the high school was commissioned by the State Depart- ment of Public Instruction . The Com - mercial and Home Economics Depart- ments were added in 1934-35, and the following year the Agricultural Depart- ment was added . A little known fact is that the present bandroom was once a country school. The building was moved into town and was used as a fifth grade room for some time . When the war started, there were eleven high school teachers, but some left to fight in the war . The vice-president of our school board, Wesley Myers, taught seventh and eighth grade history and arithmetic from 1942 to 1946 . In 1946-47 an Adult Agriculture class was added and the next year a girl ' s physical education class was added. Until then the women teachers took turns teaching physical education . In 1949-50 something new was added to Wheatfield, as assistant principal . The elementary school was built in 1951-52. Grades one through four are now housed in this building. The mobile units were added in 1966-67 for grades five and six. A remedial reading course was added in 1967-68 and in 1969-70 remedial courses in English, math, science, and social studies were added. When the new school is built, it will have a language lab or learning lab which will enable the students to re- ceive individual help .
