activities The number of activities at Wheatfield High School has increased greatly over the years . Some of the activities that have been added in the last twenty years are Sunshine Society, National Honor Society, Pom Pom, and Art Club. A few activities were started long ago, discontinued, and then started again later, such as Girl ' s Athletic Associa- tion and Chorus . One of the few clubs that no longer exist at Wheatfield was the Boys ' Service Club. It was organ- ized in 1953 to promote civic improve- ment and good citizenship .

sports Wheatfield football had its humble be- ginnings in 1939 when a six -man team took to the field as a change from fall softball. This change brought about a tradition of winning teams, starting the next year when they won the Kankakee Valley championship . The first cham - pionship was led by Coach MacOwan. Since then there have been several other coaches, hundreds of players, many victories, and in recent years, many heartbreaking losses. Each of these teams has left its mark on Wheatfield High School and a sense of pride which will be remembered long after the doors of Wheatfield are closed. Football is not the only area in which Wheatfield can take pride . Wheatfield ' s basketball teams have always shown ability, pride, sportsmanship, and a winning tradition in their years of exist- ence. In the ' 37 - ' 38 season, the Red Devils won 19 out of 20 games. In the ' 38 -’39 season the Red Devils won 13 out of their 19 games; but in the Kanka- kee Valley Tourney, Medaryville came out victorious. These are a few exam- ples of the fine teams always started by Wheatfield . In recent years the Red Devils have had sectional victories in the 50, ’65, and ' 67 seasons. The winning tradition set by these teams will always be remembered by every past and present student of Wheatfield. As Wheatfield High School comes to a close, we can look back and hope this tradition will be carried on into the new Kankakee Valley High School .

Of course, all the fun activities after school could not have been held without the support of these organizations . These activities have mainly remained the same through the years. We still have hayrides, roller skating parties, once in a while an ice skating party . and dances. The type of dance at the dances and the type of music are the only things that have changed. The stu- dents have danced their way through the charleston, jitterbug, twist, swim, jerk, and so many others that you can ' t name them all . Wheatfield has given many plays through the years . The last Senior play to be given was CHARLEY ' S AUNT. This play is included in that long list of activities that we know you like so well, the money making projects . How could we ever forget the cake raffles, fish frys, and candy sales that have plagued the citizens of Wheatfield ever since the school began. 9
