The 1968 Arcus Salutes J. D. Foster for being awarded Honorary American Far- mer Degree at the National F.F.A. convention. Arch Risner for being the most photogenic Senior. Jerry Caldwell for being high-point man on the basket- ball team consistently for two years. Rachel Jamieson and Roger McCarty for being Valedic- torian and Salutatorian. Mr. Martin and the 8th grade basketball team for their fine season. Clarence Duttlinger, Marv Van Kley and Roger McCarty for proving athletes can also be good students. Nancy Hoffman and Crystal Myers for being cheerleaders for four years. John Jones for being high salesman on the Arcus staff. Mr. Little for inspiring the students to have greater school spirit. Motto Learning to Do Doing to Learn Earning to Live Living to Serve The Fu ture Farmers of America, or F .F .A. as it is commonly known, is a national organization of, by, and for boys studying vocational agriculture in public secondary schools under the provisions of the National Vocational Education Acts. The Future Farmers of America is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian farm youth organization of voluntary membership, designed to take its place along with other organizations striving for the development of leadership. The 1967-68 year for the Sunshine Society was again, as always, a very fulfilling ad- venture for our members. We began our year with the initiating of 29 new members. Next we honored our mothers at the Mother-Daughter Salad-Bar. For Thanksgiving the Sunshiners distributed Thanksgiving Baskets . One of our biggest events of the year was the Christmas Dance- -Snowflake Fantasy. Our last big event of the year was the Ideal Ladies Tea. The Student Council is an organization consisting of elected students who represent the student body. The class presidents are also included. The Council is set up similar to our national government, and it tries to solve any problems before it by the students. It also sponsors several convocations throughout the year. The National Honor Society is an organization composed of those students who have excelled in character, leadership and service during their high school years. To become a member of the society, a student must have at least a B” average and must be chosen by a committee consisting of the entire faculty. In the spring of the year N.H.S. holds an induction ceremony, takes an educational trip, and awards a scholarship to a member to further his education. The Echo, published by the Typing II class, is distributed six times yearly, with various special editions published on special occasions. The purpose of the Echo is twofold: to inform the student body and to educate the typing class in newspaper practices . SEATED: Margaret Jones, Miss Brown, Lana Myers. Eleven girls, five old members, are doing very well this year performing the various duties of student librarians . Some prefer putting white ink on books, hunting the correct number, stamping magazines, processing books or reading the shelves. Because of a larger enrollment in art this year, the Art Club membership was in- creased to twenty. Our goal was to purchase a manually operated potter ' s wheel for ceramics class . This goal was reached by means of a fish fry which was put on in January . Field trips planned for the year were to Valparaiso University to see an exhibit by Sister Corita, another trip with the Kouts High School art class to the Art Institute in Chicago, and a tour of the White Sign Company in Shelby to learn more about the art of serigraphy.
