The 1962-1963 year for Sunshine was indeed a very busy year. We began with initiation of new members. This was held at the Baptist church on September 26th. Next we honored our mothers at the Mother -Daughter Banquet. We enjoyed various types of en- tertainment with almost every mother in attendance. As usual we indulged in a carry in supper with various types of dishes. Our kindest act for others was distribution of baskets. We gave three baskets of fruit to older people in different townships for Thanksgiving. Then at Easter we gave well filled baskets to less fortunate children. At Christmas we had our annual dance called the Snow Ball. We enjoyed music by the Im- pala ' s and I ' m sure everyone had a wonderful time. At the end of the 1st semester we gave a breakfast for the students having a B or above average for the semester. All received a small favor to wear as a pin. Since this breakfast was such a success we also gave a breakfast honoring the graduating seniors. I hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. Again it was time for election of officers who are as follows: President, Darlene Stalbaum; Vice President, Janett Manns; Corresponding Secretary, Diane Myers; Recording Secretary, Wanda Whited; Treasurer, Janet Strain. Our next big event was the Ideal Ladies Tea. We all gave our Ideals yellow roses, the Sun- shine flower. We had a guest speaker, Mrs. Zellers, from Rochester. As this climaxed our year we hope we have benefited someone while we worked for Others. - 17 - The latest news on the Sunshine board. Our Sponsors. The running pyrotechnics of Bob Dobson, the generalship of Dick Hershman, the crashing fullback play of Dick Parker and yeoman line play spelled woe to all K. V. opponents. The high point of the undefeated season was the 20-13 defeat of Monon; the title was on the line, and Wheatfield played splendidly. After overcoming an early deficit W. H. S. went ahead in the fourth quarter and staved off a late Monon drive to win the championship. - 28 - Mac Howard End Don Pullins Second String All Conference Guard Dick Hershman All Conference Quarterback John Risner Honorable Mention Defensive Back Bob Dobson All Conference Halfback Carl Oliver Guard Ronald Parker Center Dennis Risner End Robert King Quarterback Dan Tillema End 1962-63 Ked Devils V A TPS f fVK H 7% - PfloH y pTfiJJ l 22 J i 34 : Vi |Jk ' Isr - 32 ri [ ri ! Bob Dobson won his third Hebron Invitational individual award, the Sectional broad jump and set a new school record by jumping 22 feet 8 1 2 inches at the Gary Regional. There were several promising freshmen who will win many ribbons and medals in the future. Bob wins again at Hebron. Ted is set for the mile relay. BY THE SWEAT OF THY BROW I am the foundation of all prosperity. I am the fount from which all blessings flow. Everything that is of value in this world springs from me. I am the salt that gives life its savor. I am the sole support of the poor, and the rich who think they can do without me live futile lives and fill premature graves. I have built America. I have built her matchless industries, laid her incomparable railroads, created her cities, and reared her skyscrapers. I arn the friend of every worthy youth. If he makes my acquaintance when he is young and keeps me by his side throughout his life, I can do more for him than the richest parent. I keep bodies lean and fit. minds alert and when I am neglected, both bodies and minds grow fat and sluggish I am even the parent of genius itself. I am represented in every paper that flies from ihe press, in every loaf of bread that springs from the oven, in every train that crosses the continent, and in every ship that steams the ocean. Fools hate me, wise men love me. The man who keeps his hand in mine throughout his life never dies-- because that which he has created with my help lives on after he is gone. The man who shirks me and scorns mv aid never lives--never really lives, even though he may continue to breathe Who am I? What am I?
