With the aid of Miss Brown, our sponsor, we chose the following officers: President, Carolyn Dahm; Vice-President, Rob- bert Braun; Secretary, Wilma Hetrick; Treasurer, Ronnie Gastineau; Senators, David Krieve and Roy Jungels. This year we won the Echo contest and also took in the most money. Con- sequently, we were able to give thirty dollars towards buying new lockers for the school. Our number had shrunk considerably by the sophomore year, and we had only fifty members. Mr. Shoemaker was our class sponsor, and under his direction we selected class sweaters and held a Hard Times Party . Officers for this year were Joe McFarland, President; Tracy Jones, Vice-President; David Krieve, Treasurer; Roy Jungels, Treasurer; Carolyn Dahm and David Cavinder, Senators. Our membership continued to decline, and as Juniors we had only forty-three members. Our sponsors this year were Miss Stroup and Miss Traverse. The most exciting event of the year was the choosing of our class rings, which we still think are very pretty. We also presented our first play, Dotty Daffy , which was a hilarious success. Officers elected were: Tracy Jones, President; David Krieve, ice -President; Audrey Krypel, Secretary; Peggy Martin, Treasurer; Irene Mueller and David Cavinder, Senators. In our Senior year, with thirty-five members, we again had Miss Brown as our sponsor, with Mr. Ehrick as co-sponsor. Officers were: Tracy Jones, President; David Cavinder, Vice-Pres- ident; Audrey Krypel, Secretary; Robert Kerkes, Treasurer; Irene Mueller and Joe McFarland, Senators. This year has truly been our busiest, with the measuring for caps and gowns, pictures, ord- ering invitations, and working on various committees. We were very lucky in that we were able to give our Senior Play, Something ' s Cookin ' , during the first semester. We were kept busy preparing for Class Exercises for May 17, Baccalaureate on May 19, and Commencement on May 21. As a parting gift to the school, we gave another seventy dollars to the locker fund. FLOWER— Red Rose 8 TRACY JONES President Sam DAVID CAVINDER Vice-President Elvis Jr. WILMA HETRICK Willy JAMES DAVIS SONJA STANTON Sugar HENRY HENRICHS Hank THOMAS C. BLASZCZYK Earless _ seniors, so July 5, 1967 Dear Tracy, I ' m terribly sorry that you couldn ' t come to our class reunion last week, but I hope that everything came out all right when you opened the new bridge which you built. I still can ' t figure how you prevent a five mile suspension bridge from col- lapsing . I thought that you might like to know what your classmates are doing, so here is a quick run-down. Some of our boys are working right here in Detroit. Gene Hol- brook is a test driver for Ford, and when he isn ' t busy he tours the AAA race tracks with Frank Shields. Frank is current AAA champion and Henry Henricks is his mech- anic. They surely must make a good team. You ' ve probably read about Pat Bachman. I never thought that such a quiet girl would enter politics, but she seems to be a very good Secretary of the Treasury. She is living in Washington D. C. , with Leona Jones, who is a first grade teacher. Only two in our class went to work at Gehring, Inc. Janice DeMoss is private secretary for Wm. Gehring, Jr. , and Jim Davis is the foreman at the New Gehring To- mato Cannery. Wilma Hetrick was just in town yesterday; she missed the reunion also. She had just returned from India where she and her husband are striving to build a church in the wilderness. She told me that she had seen David Hayes when passing through Africa. David is a missionary also. However, he is more interested in educating natives to Christian ideas as he travels, rather than settling in one place. Remember our class artists, Grube and Blaszczyk? They are still drawing, but now they are the publishers of Horror Comics Inc. Rex Myers is in the literary field too, since his book, How To Live With Your Height and Love It , became a best seller. There are several of our classmates working in Chicago. Carole Bladick and Sonja Stanton run a baton twirling school on the North Side. Carol Qavinder and Gail Smith are running the C G Beauty Salon on Broadway and they live with Jewel Smith in her penthouse. Jewel is a swimming instructor at the Y. W. C. A. since she retired from Olympic competition. Naturally, several of our classmates are married. Jolene Benoit married James Feleki and lives in Rensselaer. Carolyn Dahm married Howard Belstra and lives on a large farm near DeMotte, and of course Bob Braun and Audrey Krypel were married. They run a big chicken farm near Va ' Daraiso. Pat Schultz and Mildred Massoth are on a personal appearance tour to give lec- tures on home economics, and they are booked solid for another year. David Cavinder, Bill Florence and Jerry Stanton arrived together. Jerry is a big- game hunter now, and has just returned from Africa. He is staying with David, who has a large grapefruit farm in Florida. Bill is David ' s personal farm manager and handles all contracts and other business. Of course David Krieve and Dan Cowger arrived together. Dan is serving his eighth year in the Navy, and he is now Chief Petty Officer. David turned to coach- ing after he graduated, and he now has taken over as coach from Mr. Jones at Wheatfield. It seems that Robert Kerkes and Robert Sculley are working together on some big program in Jasper County. Kerkes is the County Agricultural Agent, and Sculley is running an experimental animal husbandry farm for Purdue University. Oddly, only one in our class turned to the entertainment field — Tevis Calloway. You probably knew that she took over for Aunt Fanney on the Don McNeil show. Well, chat about covers everyone. I may try to drive down to visit with you next week, because T want you to see my new car. It ' s a customized Cadillac from Kossakowski ' s Kool Kustom Kars, here in Detroit. Tony did all the body work, and Irene Mueller, who is an interior decorator, designed the upholstery and seat covers. Drop me a line if you have time. Production Vice-President General Mo tors Corp. Then the going got rough and Klondike proved a better team by a 20-8 score. The Devils breezed through the rest of the season beating Kentland 30-18, and Fair Oaks 50- 25. Placing second in the Kankakee Valley Conference and with an over all season record of 5-1-1, everyone was happy. The advertising committee began visits to the businessmen in order to collect ads; the subscription staff carried on a campaign to sell as many yearbooks as possible; the editorial staff discussed the problems of cover style and color, theme, division pages and the like. Photographers, art editors, and copy editors were all working busily. The deadline was drawing nearer. Layout sheets took form; the rubber cement supply was rapidly de- pleted; copy was typed, corrected and retyped. Finally, the material was arranged, wrap- ped, addressed and sent on its way to the printers. With a sigh of relief, the staff joined the subscribers in the long wait for the return of the completed annuals. 52 C; The Echo staff was chosen in September by Mr. Barber. Work began at once to meet the first deadline which was in September. The staff this year was very large, but every- one co-operated and therefore fine papers were published. In Vocational Agriculture, among other things, members learn through active partici- pation how to conduct and take part in a public meeting; to speak in public; to buy and sell co-operatively; to solve their own problems; to finance themselves; and to assume civic responsibility. Membership in the F.F.A. is made up of farm boys who are students of VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE in high school. The organization ' s activities are designed primarily to help develop rural leadership and good citizenship, and to stimulate the boys to better achievement in their study and work toward successful establishment in farming. 56 Under the direction of Mr. Jones, their sponsor, the officers were elected in Sept- ember. They are: President-Gary Green; Vice-President-Joe McFarland; Secretary- Glenn Friberg; Treasurer-Tracy Jones.
